Traction Limit Training Device
« on: April 25, 2009, 02:06:01 PM »

Ive been toying with the idea of creating a device which gives the rider feedback of how much traction they are currently using, as a percentage 0 being stopped, 100 being ur on ur ass buddy.

Im fairly sure i have enough sensors that it will sense all bike movements, such as lean angle, speed, incline angle and more, it will not be able to sense changes in the road surface (wet roads, gravel etc) or the roads camber.

The idea is that riders can learn the limits of traction without exceeding them and falling off, this can be done on well known corners. The idea is that knowing the limits of traction will enable riders to perform better in emergency situations, rather than enabling riders to just go faster, though the later is probably inevitable for some riders.

What do you guys think of this idea, would people buy it? and would it decrease road accidents?

I think it sounds great.  How would the information be communicated to the rider?  Would it be done in real time or would a report be made availiable after the ride?

Something like this might translate well into a traction control system if the bike could process the inputs and regulate power and braking based on the information.

currently thinking about that, the prototype one will probably have gps, so store everything in a log available after the ride. But also thinking about having a display that shows what % of traction was used after each coner, and someone also had the idea of using a beeper for real time montitoring.

Yeh one of the eventual application could be to modulate the throttle while cornering to prevent high/low siding it.
