On the financial news last night was mention of Tesla filing a patent for a "hybrid battery" - as well as a prediction that their stock would soon sell for $250 a share.  Anyone have any idea what a "hybrid" battery might be like?  It is claimed to provide 40% more range and have a longer life than Tesla's current batteries.

Tesla is thinking of using a hybrid metal-air/lithium-ion power source.  They have been talking about it for a while, but this patent application certainly means they are serious about it.  It's good news!  Hopefully the new-technology batteries will be able to swap in the current generation of batteries on the Model S.  I'd upgrade.

Thanks for the info, zax123.  That looks like good news. I sure hope they make the technology available to commercial battery manufacturers.  Electric motorcycles can sure use all of the energy density that technology can provide - at a reasonable cost, of course.
