some good accessories for 2011XU
« on: August 02, 2012, 03:11:34 AM »

The XU is really fun to ride, but I find a few more accessories make it even better. There are 3 things I think is almost must have for me to make the ride more enjoyable and more practical (for me personally)

1. First one is the license plate stash.storage box. I have the twist throttle one, and there is another one call grifter. I find this is a great place to put the insurance/reg paper and even a small tool/ flash light. Cost is about $20.

2. a Windshield. Sometimes when I ride, I just don't like the feeling the the wind constantly blow to my abs. I guess I am kinda get use to riding a scooter with a small windshield. So I get a windshield. I first want to get a puig scooter city sport windshield, which looks really nice on a small bike like the XU, it was for $120, but I comes up with a second hand slipstreamer spit fire one with only $40, and another $20 for a 1" handlebar clamps. So I get the slipstreamer one. But it was original too big so I take my time to trim it smaller. Not the perfect job in the world, but I kinda think it fit the XU better now than in its original size. I just put it on last night, no time to test the effect yet, in terms or speed and range.

3. Saddlebag. I got the nelson-rigg CL series, I first have the saddlebag, I find I need the smallest one or the bag may touch the wheel. I also order another tail/tank bag, which can either connect to the saddle bag or just the tail bag.  I may just use the tail bag only most of the time for a bit more storage space, and put on the saddle when I want/need more storage. I find the saddlebag take away the slim looks of the XU. It makes the bike much more bulky. The nelson-rigg cl series cost about $200. (both the tail bag and the saddlebag, with all the cables and ties)

That's it, got everything on, and now I am ready to roll!!

Sorry to resurrect and old thread, just wondering did you install any sort of frame / support to keep the pannier's away from the rear wheel?

I didn't install any frame/support. I now ride it with a tank/tail bag more often then the saddle bag, as it gives less air-drag. For an e-bike, I find every little bit that can reduce drag or increase range is important. The next step I may be need to lose some more weight. Ha Ha!
