* Terry added 3 additional ZF3 modules to his bike, bringing total nominal capacity to 16 kWh
* Terry was unable to complete the course, being passed by Mr. Vetter going up the 20% grade to the Laguna Seca race track. Terry did 143 miles on a single charge.
* Jeremiah Johnson of Be-ev.com also competed on his mostly-stock 2013 S ZF11.4. He charged for 45 minutes midway through the challenge, but reportedly could have completed on a single charge. (I'm dubious, given that he charged 13 kWh in total)
* Some guy is building a flying auto-gyro motorcycle. Crazy!
Mr. Vetter highlights the remarkable improvements year-over-year:
At the 2012 Mid-Ohio Challenge, Mark Gielbien of Enertrac was able to go only 20 miles out and 20 miles back. 40 miles. That was impressive considering that he doubled the distance the electric bikes had gone the year before. But this year, two Zero electric bikes went the entire 116 miles - and more!
And it appears that he's sold on the potential of electrics.
If I were you, beginning from scratch,I'd use a Ninja 250 or Zero electric.
Terry has also posted on Facebook that the fairing work is continuing and nearing completion. He estimates a near 200 mile highway range once complete.
Suppose he gets 180 miles freeway, which a 1.33 hour charge time (12 kW from 2x J1772). This gives him 135 freeway miles per hour of charging .. almost 2x the effective charge rate of the 2013 Zero S with CHAdeMO.
I hope he and Mr. Vetter are thinking about how to manufacture a line of these fairings. They would be a HUGE upgrade for any electric motorcycle rider.
