Buell Blast donor bike
« on: June 25, 2008, 07:28:45 AM »

Howdy there fellow Electric motorcycle enthusiasts  ;D
I am a long time motorcyclist and just found this forum. I am thinking of using a Buell Blast for my donor bike. Anyone have any ideas about this choice ? Pros or Cons? It seems like a nice smallish, lighter weight bike built for full sized adults, so I am thinking it will be able to handle the weight of the batteries etc.  I am still in the planning stage so am looking for any info or ideas.  i am in central Colorado, anybody else on here from CO?    thanks,  ElectroBuell   :D

You mean something like this im guessing

Pros
Easy to fit batteries and motor as it is not a cradle type frame.
Looks to be belt drive, which makes for a very silent ride, especially if u use a brushless motor

Cons
Batteries not hidden behind a fairing (bad aesthetics in my opinion)
Doesnt look like a very aerodynamic bike, which will reduce range and top speed

But this all depends on your intended use, if you just want a cheap inner city commuter this would be a good choice as the aeros mainly come into play above 70kmhr, and the lack of fairing would probably allow more batteries for extra range (if the bike can take the weight of course)

Hi Bogan and thanks for the response. ;)  Yes this is the bike I have in mind. It should work out well as it is indeed belt drive and has a low c/g. I am not wild about the batteries being exposed either, but it does offer more space than a full faired bike. i may eventually fabricate some sort of bodywork to cover them.  These bikes are fairly available as Harley uses them for their riders ed. training and a lot of people bought them as starter bikes.  I am still in the planning stage and am trying to find out things like : what motors most conversions are useing, batteries and so on and so on. Any other sights you can recomend?
and is there any body else on here from Colorado??    thanks,   Travis  aka ElectroBuell

Just a heads up the rear swing arm mounts to the rear of the tranny case you will have to fab a plate to hold the swing arm.
