Guerrilla charging at my BMW dealer
« on: September 30, 2012, 04:35:08 AM »

Today I guerrilla charged at my BMW dealer, located 40 miles away, while visiting them to buy a small part. The shop has a nice unsecured 120V covered outlet on the service department's exterior wall. After charging for a couple of hours, I let the service manager ride my bike around the parking lot and he enjoyed the experience.

He told me that some time (years?) ago Brammo stopped by the shop and tried to interest them in becoming a dealer for the Enertia. Unfortunately, the demonstrators that they brought with them would not run. They returned a couple of days later and again the bikes would not operate. So the shop figured that electric motorcycles were not ready for prime time. He also told me that the Zero crew had been around recently to try convince them to become a Zero dealer (not a bad location as they are located in the heart of Silicon Valley), but I got the impression that they are not quite ready to take on another brand, along with BMW, Triumph and Vespa - especially as business (particularly the service department's business) seems to be pretty steady there.  I guess first impressions are really important in the EV business.

I chuckled at the implication in the picture that the only "service department" elmotos need is an outlet. But then I got jerked back to reality when I got my encoder-drift recall notice today :)
