BMS working or Glitch?
« on: September 05, 2012, 01:03:55 AM »

I rode my 2011XU yesterday, I rode it for 24km already, and I have only one bar left. According to my past experience, the battery should be almost used up.

So I am only 200m from home, and all of a sudden, the bike seems losing its power, I cannot go past 45km/h, and the warning light flash once. No stalling though. So I baby the bike for the last 200m and got home, and when I turn off and turn on again, it seems there is not enough power to power up the bike. So I charge it and after the battery is full, I take it out for a spin again and it seems it is back to normal.

Since I am only a newbie regarding the Zero, just wondering is it normal? or am I experience the glitch which many of you are experiencing it? BTW, my 2011 XU has only 450km on the odometer.

on a side note, I rode it with a mix of city and highway, with a stretch of the road that I go for a little bit over 80km/h (50mph), its top speed. And I can definitely feels the winds drag. I am planing to get a puig city sport windshield. See if this will improve the rage and speed a bit...

I think you just pushed the battery too far. I believe the 2011 bikes will cut power when they get very close to the lower voltage cutoff. It's possible if you let the bike sit for 5 minutes then turned it back on, you could have creeped along for a few more miles, or at least turned the bike on.

If it happens again when the battery is not fully depleted .. then maybe we're seeing something new. I wouldn't worry for now.

I confirm... when the battery is really low, the LVC ( Low voltage Cuttoff limit) of the BMS is activated by the lower cell bank of teh entire pack  when it reach 3.000V min.

if you turn it off and restart the zero, the voltage will have raised a little bit so you can do few more meters.. but the lower cell bank is already empty so i would suggest to not play with that too much to not damage that lower cell bank.

Once it happened i immediatly used my celllog reader that i connect to my zero ds 2011 battery and i saw the cell bank no 1 to be the lower and to be at 3.004V wich is the min  allowable for these cells at ambiant temp.

ON my DS 2011 i had  59Ah used when it reach LVC of the lower cell bank. the rest of the 13 other bank was at 3.250V while the first lower was at 3.004V.
