Amazing project! Doc, Good job.
It seems you could achieve a very nice result with a reasonable budget...

I own 2 Tidalforces (M750 & 750X) + other home made low-power e-bikes -
It is a shame Wavecrest Laboratories went out of business (no further development was carried out on the motor/batteries/PMS)...Now I'm trying to get rid of my e-bike frustration buying the Zero ZF-9...

surely to have loads of fun - road legal ? in Oz they have a stupid limit on "pedelecs" of 200W only ... useless.

then this morning the cops were hanging out on the bicycle bypass road ... surely coz traffic has been shit and many motorbikes started taking that shortcut. Still need to find out what happened to them. I took the traffic, safe route as my new Zero still does not register here in OZ for a reason the dealer does not explain, still riding on an about overdue interim label ....

So far in Europe we have a similar limitation -250W- (for pedelecs, otherwise it is consider a motorbike)
I have read they want to change it ans increase it -as it is totally foolish...

Another data point: there's a particular twisty bit that I like to run along on my way in to work. Coming off a controlled-access freeway exit loop (clockwise as viewed from above), I can accelerate from about 35 mph on the exit loop to 67 mph along the straight before I start braking. My GS500 can accelerate up to about 75 mph along that same stretch.

Ahem. 72 mph today, and that was backing off a little early. Probably just more corner speed on the exit loop - riding the bike a little more confidently now.

Yesterday I gave my bike a taste of WOT from a stop light, up a slight grade in "sport mode", and had counted slowly (one-thousand one, one-thousand two) to 12 seconds by the time it hit 60 mph.  I won't guarantee the accuracy of my results, though.
