Vectrix Lobbies for $1500 tax credit for US buyers
« on: September 04, 2008, 10:40:40 PM »

Quote
The plug-in provision in the Senate bill would provide a tax credit of $3,000 for the purchase of qualified plug-in cars. Chrysler and Vectrix are seeking to add a separate credit, with a base amount of $1,500, for "urban commuter vehicles," which would apply to both GEM cars and Vectrix maxi-scooters.

Quote
Two-wheeled electric vehicles like Vectrix's "maxi-scooter" would also not be eligible for the credit under the House-passed language. The bikes are powered by a nickel-hydride battery, comparable to battery technology used in hybrid cars now on the market, and at maximum speeds up to 62 miles per hour are highway-legal.

This would certainly help ease the pain of the upfront cost of getting an electric vehicle... but that upfront cost is still pretty high at this time  :(

Yeah, that would sell a lot of scooters.  I bet Quantya, Zero and the rest could qualify too.

I think it is a very good idea. While the upfront costs of electric two wheelers are high, if more of them are sold, economies of scale would come in and bring prices down. And considering that many people are single vehicel occupants on their daily commute to and back from work, a lot less fuel would be used if more of these sell.

A far better idea than giving billions to the Detroit dinosaurs IMO.
