Lucky to live in CO
« on: February 02, 2011, 07:45:16 AM »

I just filed my 2010 taxes and thankfully I live in Colorado! Purchased the 2010 DS in August for $9995. Federal rebate coming to me for $1000. State rebate coming to me for $4888!!! Almost 6k back off the purchase price. According to the CO state tax website it looks like the rebate will continue for 2011 but not in 2012. Not trying to gloat to you non-CO peeps, just amazed I was able to get this new technology for so cheap! Cheers to the other locals who cashed in on this deal in our state.

Awesome, I believe you are the first person I have heard report getting the refund. Let's see the paper proof! :D pic? Not that I don't believe you, just think it's cool to see.

Well I eFiled with direct deposit for the national and state taxes so I won't get a sweet check in the mail :) There was a special form I did have to mail in to the state with the invoice for the Zero included. Dropped that in the mail today! I'll let you guys know when the deposit comes through.

Check out this updated CO Alternative Fuel Tax Credit FYI. Go to the last two pages for the motorcycles CO has approved. Notice for the Brammo you only get back $2791 as opposed to the $4888 for the Zero. Best purchase I ever made...except for days like today in Denver when it was -9 F driving home in my car tonight. No Zero until the next warmup.

Lucky indeed.

In Australia I paid 4000 dollars in taxes *above* the 10000 purchase price.

Grrrrr

If I'd moved to CO and bought there I would have saved nearly 10000 dollars!

Direct deposit from CO tax refund in now in my account! I had to send in the bill of sale as well but all should be good. Now if Zero would just let us know if we can buy any of the upgrades on the 2011 models for our 2010's!

zero had 25% off 2010 models in Feb of 2011 to clear inventory.

a local craigs list search revelas DS is now selling for 50% off list from several sellers.

Given the price of gas motorcycles I'm guessing theses electric bikes won't be really popular till the price is around 50% of new anyways.

Hi there,

First post here as a result of doing research on the street-legal Zero MX.  Many thanks for the information already provided.

I'm based in Texas and there are no Zero dealers here.  Using Zero's locator, the closest option is Grad Prix Motorsports in Denver.  I was very excited to see the CO incentives for alternative fuel vehicles, and have a few questions as a result...

1.  Clicking the link to the colorado.gov site, it appears that the only requirement is that the bike should be titled and registered in CO.  What documentation did you have to provide to receive the tax credit?  Residence in CO?  Anything more than an address?

2.  Did you pay full price and then receive a credit on your annual income tax?  Do you pay state income tax in CO?  Or was the credit applied at the time of purchase?

3.  Assuming that you purchased at GPM, is there anyone in particular you'd recommend to facilitate the transaction?

I really appreciate any info or replies.  Looking forward to increasing awareness of these cool machines in Texas.

Take care and have fun riding!

Alternative Fuel Tax Credit

is what it is. the only way you could possibly do it legally is temporarily live in colorado long enough wtih a job to file for the tax break.

or have someone else buy the bike , get the tax credit and then sell to you, though I'm guessing like with most tax laws you'd have to wait several years to legally do that as well.

To the OP - I just bought a Zero S in August, but I was under the impression that the total rebate is $4,888.  Is that change for 2011??  Just curious how you got the extra $1k.

The extra $1k came from the Federal 10% tax credit. Not sure if that one is still available.
