I started by removing all the lights and brackets.. I also removed the charger.. If the ds is 297, I'll have to weigh the parts and subtract them.. I am going to try to lighten this bike up big time..

So now new tires for the dirt.. I normally would get Maxxis but I think I will research the lightest tires I can get and put those on.. Anything with knobbies at this point would be fine, I mean this bike isnt a KTM or CRF but it should do just fine for trail riding. I'll go narrow and light so if anyone has any good info on which brand may provide the lightest tires I'd be interested.. All I could initially find was project bikes that were all about lowering the weight and they ended up using Dunlop.. So maybe I will go that route.
I am also making some adjustments on being able to quickly add the lights and charger back on the bike.. I already pretty much made it so I can put the charger back in in only a few minutes. It was pretty easy. I will grab some photos later. I really dont want to get the charger muddy anyways, it is an expensive part.
The front light bracket is pretty much assembled with all the lights on one piece, so I have a good idea on how to make it a quick install item..

One single thing I do not like about the Zero DS is the turn radius.. It is aweful! I have to do some serious 6 point turns when I am in a pinch.. It is by no means a deal breaker, but holy cow.. There is a little room for improvement but not much.. To make room for the huge battery pack to slide in, they have a wide front to the frame and the forks just run into it without much turn. I may shave the stop a little and let the forks bump the frame.. I could possibly even gently shave the forks and frame juuuuust a pinch to allow a little more.. I really dont know why they didnt design the frame with some dents for the forks, It is so skookum that small fork dents wouldnt hurt integrity..

Out of curiosity, for a pure dirt bike, why not go with the X/MX?

I have a Zero X, the DS is taller and has way more range and parts compatability.. Besides it has been fun turning it into a full fledged dirt bike. I'll have photos when I am finished.. Ive already shaved it down 30lbs in weight, so it is really kicking it..
