Interesting electric scooter on Ebay
« on: December 15, 2010, 03:04:48 PM »

Hi guys!

Just came across a interesting electric motorcycle sold on Ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Elinta-E-Force-Sports-Electric-scooter-motorcycle-40-Hp_W0QQitemZ170576099189QQcategoryZ23046QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp5197.m7QQ_trkparmsZalgo%3DLVI%26itu%3DUCI%26otn%3D2%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D5662145768946431122#ht_1084wt_1141

From the video looks amazing - 40bhp is quite cool too, much more than the Zero or Brammo. What do you think?

Cheers,
Vaidas

I think that much power through a perm 132 would kill it pretty quickly.  That's what I think, but I have no actual experience with that motor.   They've got a 500 amp controller on it.  The motor is only rated for 200 amps.  They say 6 X 12 volt packs so that's 72 volts nominal (actually 66-96 volts).  Discharging at 12C they would have to sag a bit, so say 65 volts.  That would be about 500 amps to get 40 hp out of it.   So it could do it, but it would be dead flat in under 5 minutes and I'm sure that you'd be replacing the motor quite regularly.

The batteries used, don't seem suitable; thundersky 40 ah 12 volt nominal packs designed for ICE starting.   They're only rated for 3C constant and 10C for up to 10 seconds.   Discharging them at 12C for extended periods seems like it would kill them pretty quickly too.
