Symptoms of a bad Li cell?
« on: October 25, 2010, 03:38:31 AM »

Does anyone happen to know what the symptoms are of a lithium cell going bad are? My bike has Hi Power prismatic cells and the other day I noticed a strong chemical smell, something like lacquer thinner, and a sizzling sound upon returning home from a hard ride. Could this be a cell breaking down? I have recharged and balanced my pack and all of my cells appear to be about the same voltage now - around 3.5 volts each. Nothing looks burned, melted or distorted. How can you tell when a cell is going  bad and how can you determine which one?  I have 24 cells connected in series.
