Add RS package after purchase
« on: September 21, 2024, 05:27:48 PM »

This is specifically about an ss9 but I’m sure it applies to all of them. I know the RS package is a different front sprocket, chain and some decals, is there any physical change to the controller or is it just code? If so has anyone heard of purchasing the RS package after sales and had it upgrade retrospectively?

The software is a bit different.  The overall controller should be the same.  Yes the sprocket and potentially chain are different too.
I have heard of it but don't know anyone who did, but seems like it'd be something the dealer should be able to do, should not be much different than adding an update, it's just a software DL for that part.

May I ask why you want the RS?   Not dissing you, genuinely curious?  Are you racing the bike?

Given that even the existing top speed is unwarranted here (seriously 110km/h max, and average speed cameras even on country roads), and from what I have heard the change in gearing doesn't have a significant impact on range, my thinking is a little extra low range punch might be useful on the occaisional (about 8 per year) non-competitive hillclimb event

Yah there is that, being able to smack someone down when you want to :D

But seriously, one can do their own sprocket change and get a little bit more torque on it.  The front sprocket, I believe on the SS9 you need to have that  special socket tool so, since the dealer has to put the software on anyways, might as well let him do the sprocket change too since he should have the proper tool.

You won't really get any more range out of it.  The range, actually you will get by driving SLOWER, not faster.

I believe the SS9 motor is physically smaller than the EGO/Ribelle to begin with,  and less HP so you won't get a ton more out of it, but if you like to have fun, yes it's totally fun having the ability to hop on it when one needs to.

Don't the EGO, Ribelle and SS9 all share the same motor...just the mapping and gearing is a bit different..??

Correct. I believe Aaron was confusing the SS9 with the Experia which does have a smaller motor and inverter.

So what Morgan is saying is all you need is a friendly dealer to have ribelle power on the ss…….

Thanks guys, it sounds like it’s a possibility but it isn’t commonly done.

I said nothing of the sort. All I did was correct an assertion about motor and controller sizes.

Ha, all good mate I was being silly. I think I’d need a bit more skill and a little less self preservation to have too much more on the road.

Well,  the SS9  is boasting 107 Horsies.    The ribelleis pushing 147 to 171 horsies.  So there is quite a bit difference there.  Morgan is correct, I was thinking of the Experia Motor, got it confused with the SS9, given it's smaller output, thought  they shared the same smaller motor.

Most of the software, it's matched up between modules and such, and serialized too Id imagine, so slapping this or that software on may not work.  You'd have to change it's 'version' in the other parts that are expecting to see #.... at the BMS, or VCU as an example.  Them seeing a different number, it may not like it, although this is an excellent form of theft protection.  Someone jacks your bike, they can't aftermarket the major parts, it won't talk with anyone elses stuff, and MUST go thru a valid service center, and the stolen ID would be seen then.

That would be a nice thing they could offer people though.  For say a grand or so, upgrade the Ribelle to EGO stats, or SS9 to Ribelle stats.  TBH tho I don't think id want to be riding a bike at 150 MPH with two big ole bags hanging off it.  That's probably tear them up Id imagine too.
