Author Topic: Swapped the cruise control and hazard light buttons--what a massive improvement!  (Read 891 times)

There are other threads about doing this, and others about extra buttons.  I got some of my info and a wiring diagram from one of those threads.  I decided to do it, and get a video, which might help people who are afraid of electrical stuff.  I've been doing electrical projects all my life so it's simple to me.

We all know what a pain it is to hit that stupid button, and at the same time, the hazard button is the easiest to reach of all of them.  And the least useful.  It's right against my finger in a normal grip position.  So the choice was obvious.  The first couple times I went to use parking mode I hit the hazards, but my brain immediately switched over when riding, and I used the correct one every time.

Great idea!  Thanks for that.  You are absolutely right, that cruise button is a pain, and given that there is no resume/accel or decel, the engage button should definitely be on the left hand.  The bonus of your swap is that the downside is so small.  If you hit the actual cruise buttion by mistake, you will simply engage the hazards and quickly realize your mistake.  Similarly, if you mistakenly hit the hazard button, probably nothing will happen if you don't already have cruise enabled, and if cruise is enabled, you probably have the habit pattern down well enough to not make that mistake.  Perfect.

You make a great point, the risk is low.  It's been quick and easy to adapt, over the last couple days.  When I first went to remove the bike from the front wheel stand, I used parking mode in reverse, went to go forward, and hit the hazards.  LOL.  Did that one other time in parking mode.  But riding, the left side has been so intuitive that I have not hit the hazards accidentally at all.  I'm now able to roll throttle to a good point to release cruise without the passenger slamming her helmet into mine due to regen.

I did my 2020 SR/S a week ago and it is much easier to use the cruise control!! I opted to cut the wires and soldered them back together with waterproof heat shrink. The wires were black and solid blue and black and solid green but in the same position in the plugs.

Sounds like a great idea. You would think the designers would figure this common sense stuff out before it ever hits the street.You said your name was SwapNut right? Well of course, no wonder. I just comes natural for ya.
