DSR/X vs SR/F
« on: October 16, 2023, 01:44:10 AM »

Last week and over several days I had a chance to compare the DSR/X with my SR/F. Along with some obvious and known ones (not all mentioned here) I noticed a couple things, some very little, which I didn't read or heard anywhere.
  • Better suspensions. On the SR/F and on some commuting roads I end up memorizing narrow potholes-free paths. Won't be needed on the DSR/X.
  • Better placement of the rear mirrors, on the SRF I was seeing my shoulders. I had to buy an extra pair.
  • Larger footstands for both the rider (larger) and passenger (flatter), thus more comfortable on long tours.
  • Larger bike stand, better for parking on soft ground. With the SR/F, I once needed someone finding me a stone.
  • Brake fluid is more level in the front. No idea why Zero Motorcycles neglected that on the SR/F.
  • More comfortable riding position, less pressure on my wrists during long rides. Wider leg angle.
  • More comfortable for the passenger as well. Wider leg angle. Better grip in the back
  • Larger saddle, but not by much.
  • Better bottom clearance. On my SR/F while riding loaded and with a passenger, I hit the ground several times while passing speed bumps too quickly or with my shoes in high-speed turns.
  • Warmer heated grips, although it might be related to the handguards since I was told these are the same ones.
  • Charging fan noise is quieter. This is most probably due to battery chargers being more concealed in the fairing.
  • Much more responsive instant power consumption on the dashboard.
  • Better brakes, front and rear. Although on this demo bike the front one was pulsating.
  • Feels more secure, thus fun, when driving in curves. That was a good surprise for me as I expected the opposite given the upright riding position.
  • Better high beam position. On the SR/F I have an annoying dark bar between the low and the high beams. Not so much here.
  • Appears to accelerate just as much, most probably quicker. Also a pure joy when overtaking.
  • Same regenerative braking power as the SR/F, also configured at 100%.
  • No resonance noise zones with the belt drive when accelerating, a bit nicer sound overall. That could also be because the demo bike I used only has 3600 km vs 72'000 km on my SR/F.
  • Much larger front trunk, and its lock is on the top, which is more practical.
  • Slightly cheaper rear tire, because smaller.
  • Rear fender not mounted on the swingarm. Less stuff which can break. Less weight on the swingarm. This makes it easier and quicker to change the rear tire or belt.
Same:
  • When commuting on the exact same route, the exact same time (45 min) is required to recharge back to 100%.
  • No idea why Zero still kept incandescent light bulbs for the turn signals in 2023. I would get the LED ones.
  • "Charge complete" notification on Android still does not work? Please someone tells me I am wrong.
Cons:
  • The passenger can't touch the ground. That can become tricky with balancing the weight in stop'n'go traffic.
  • I am not sure about the purpose of the small wind screen in the low position, beside the look. In the high position, it creates turbulence. I would anyway get the larger one.
The DSR/X is definitely an overall improvement over the SR/F, I most probably will get one next year.

It's my favorite bike for my solo rides out of all eleven of my bikes. Zero did a great job on that bike, but who adjusted the headligh? Have you driven yours at night yet and tried the useless highbeam? Or is it just mine? It shines only at treetops.

I could not make sense out of page 6-29 of the Owner's manual for the headlight adjustment. I cannot even tell what I am looking at by their photo of a cover on left side of the page 6-29 of the owner's manual. It looks like a cover behind the fork reflector which makes no sense.

I just checked it out, looks like the adjustment screw is in the centre and accessible from underneath (so between the top of the front fender and the bottom of the headlight). It's a bit of a weird image they've used and not entirely clear that you're looking up at the bike from the ground.

I did. The beams were a tad too low on mine, but not bad enough that I felt it needed an adjustment given the short period I was using it.

Since you have both, how does the Energica Experia compare to the DSR/X? In relation to where I mostly charge, if it had onboard 6 kW AC charging, I would consider it as well.

A couple of things came to mind, so I updated my list.

I have an SR/S and considered the SR/F briefly, but not the DSR/X, so my view is limited.  I think the SR/S mirrors are the best on any bike ever, and I've driven literally over 200 bikes (owned around 40).  The owner of Fulgora, a Zero and Energica dealer, said he regrets selling his SR/S and going to the DSR/X.  He doesn't do much off road, and said the SR/S is the best overall everyday bike including the Energicas.  He has his pick of the litter.

I've never heard of anyone wanting the passenger to put their feet down, ever.  Is this common?  When?  Is this with a larger passenger?  Seems confusing and challenging.
