I was looking into a rear brake handle instead of the foot peg.
Does that take the place of the foot actuator or work with it, so you could use either if you wish?
Also, how did you do that? what items did you use for the rear hand brake?

I use the left hand rear brake while maintaining the function of the foot pedal.

You will need a left hand hydraulic master 12 or 13 mm port.  A dual port rear master,  I use one from a European manufacturer, Qnium.  A custom brake line and a pressure brake bleeder.

Not the easiest thing to get working correctly, so you may want to have a mechanic install if you have any doubts.

That looks similar to one of the rides we took last weekend, not as many trees but crossing over bridges and the ocean, awesome scenery at times.
This is about the best time of year, and late feb / march for riding, beautiful weather, nice and cool out, and most the summer / yankee clowns back at work / school so it's not a parking lot on the road when you do want to go for a ride / romp.
