Ive been doing some research on this and playing around with birdie detectors, near field emitters and detectors and ham radio crap and other instruments.

I'll be posting my findings so far here shortly in it's own thread but I'll give you a hint on one of the main points.

Your cell phone is a real bastard when it comes to your perceived signal / signal strength emitting from your fob.  If your cell phone is anywhere near or in the path between your key fob and the detector on the bike, sooner or later you WILL have problems.

Interesting thoughts, but no explanation for why - in the presence of the same smartphone - the keyless system on my KTM 1290 SDR has worked for three years without the slightest problem, and that on my SS9+RS was such a PITA that I had it changed to keys.

The "Key not in range" problem was started by a firmware update. See this thread: https://www.electricmotorcycleforum.com/boards/index.php?topic=11027.0

It did not exist prior to the firmware update.

Interesting,Thanks . Other sources of EMF that have caused me issues in cars and boats is poor USB 5V supplies which if poorly made or faulty can effectively emit a wideband blocking signal from their 12 volt to 5 volt conversion stages. Bad ones can supress a car radio DAB signal for example.

What I have been finding is that your phone emits a field, especially when it's scanning for wifi connections or other devices to pair with.  The phone will do this fairly often no matter what you are doing.  The field I am finding is strong enough that it is blocking out / drowning out the signal /field from your keyfob.  Keeping the phone away from your keys and out of the path between your key and the sensor which is in the front left fender should help.   While I can not say this is a definitive answer, id really need a lot more research, by turning the wifi / bluetooth off on the phone, the problem has not come back.

Leave the phone at home when you ride, the damned things are a cancer to society anyways.

The FOB sensor isn't in the front left fender...it's just to the lower right of the TFT on the Experia..
