DSR/X questions
« on: April 01, 2023, 09:14:00 PM »

I switched from SR/F to Energica a few years ago, in part because of warping J Juan rotors and mediocre suspension on the Zero.
I'm curious if the DSR/X successfully addressed these issues.

Thanks

Last October, I arrived with my SR/F to the dealership, test drove the DSR/X for 45 minutes. That gave me the following initial comparative impressions:

- Acceleration: Similar, I was hoping for better from the DSR/X with its better torque figure.
- Braking: Similar for both front and back. I would have liked a little more progressive braking, but is began rather brutally as well.
- Suspension: The DSR/X has more travel and I could feel that with a few potholes.
- Noise: The belt drive on the SR/F was quieter. I guess the larger belt causes proportionally more noise.
- Comfort: Much better, larger saddle, better for tall drivers. On the SR/F I had to order the higher saddle and the lower footrests.

Anyhow, if I were in the market today I would have no hesitation to take the DSR/X over the SR/F. As soon as you get the chance to try one, you will have your own answers.

I tested the DSR/X in November last year and rode the same route with my SR/F directly afterwards (when a friend of mine tested the DSR/X). Here are my pros and cons that I wrote down afterwards:

Pros:
Hand protection
Wind protection
seating position
wide pegs
torque
overall driving feeling

Cons:
direction changes sluggish compared to SR/F (but very good to handle in total)
harder to get on and off compared to SR/F
Dashboard not turning with the handlebar (personal opinion - never liked this, YMMV)
hefty price

I was actually thinking of swapping the SR/F for a DSR/X and finally ended up with keeping the SR/F and buying a 2016 DSR for offroading in addition, which fits my needs better as I want to ride both streets and racing tracks on the one hand and offroad on the other hand. A DSR/X would have been too much a compromise on both ends.

I still was very impressed by the DSR/X, though, and for touring it would be a good choice - but I di not do this.

Regards John

The closest motorcycle I have had to compare my new DSR/X is was my 2014 Triumph Tiger 1200.  Both bikes were about same weight.  length and height also close.  Acceleration and and handling very close as well.

The DSR/X is my first electric vehicle so I can not compare to others.  The quietness and no vibration is great.  It handles myself and my wife on the back as good as the tiger.  I don't actually notice a range difference when she is also on bike.  I am thinking maybe because I get a little more regen from the extra weight.

The suspension feels fine and it is balanced well when I push it through a curve at a spirited pace.  I use  high brake regen setting and no throttle off regen. Combining that with the linked brakes,  I usually do all braking with just my index finger.

I also have a Harley Davidson Street Glide Special and it makes me love the tall suspension of the Zero.

The Zero is now my daily driver and the Harley has been put to pasture.  I really enjoy it.

Nope!  My Juans warped within about 500 miles from the dealership.  Getting them replaced under warranty as we speak.

You need to choose your words a little more carefully if you wish to continue to live.
