Side Bags for the Ribelle
« on: May 31, 2023, 08:30:39 PM »

So I ordered a set of side bags for my Ribelle, at 720 or so dollars for bags, thats a pretty hefty price, but since i wanted to be able to carry some stuff on the bike, AND use it for running errands around town, like get dinner for example, w/o having to use the truck, I got them.

Well first time I had an issue it was with the driver side bag and one of the latches gave out it would not lock.  they gave me a new latch, it was installed and everything is fine.

now about a month later, I have a 12 pack  in the bag, nothing else, I came around a curve doing about 35 mph and hit a bit of a dip in the road, have hit this dip many times before, but this time, the SAME bag comes off the bike, skutters across the road and into the gravel, scraping / scuffing the shit out of it.  So I turn around and retrieve the bag.  The grabbers??? feel a bit spongy, and somehow the bag let itself loose of the bike and when it hit the ground, busts a few of the cans open as it slides and rolls into the gravel.

For this kind of money Id expect the bag to be a bit better than this!!  If the thing is the size of a 12 pack it should be able to HOLD a fucking 12 pack w/o any problems !!  Im not going 100 MPH with the bags on with 30 lbs in each of them.  im not scraping my elbows on the ground making hairpin turns putting fighter jet type G forces on them.  Im not leaping 5 feet into the air coming off a swail in the road, getting airborne off the railroad tracks.  It's the middle of the Fn day, there's traffic and im driving like a responsible driver.

Has anyone else, who may have also bought these bags had any issues with them.
They seem very sturdy and very well build, so seeing this kind of issue happen twice now, is disappointing to say the least.  The same bag too.  Maybe the wire rail they mount to is out of spec or something?  I dunno.

I had the sidecases on my previous Ribelle and the zipper started to go bad shortly before I got rid of it. Started to get concerned about how much I was packing in them especially when getting grocery's.  Currently have them on my RS. Never had issues like you describe. I commute on mine 5 days a week so they get used.

Was using them on my SS9 at first and then on my Ribelle. Yes, the connection to the framework is kind of flimsy - but I made three longer trips and probably overloaded the bags several times (3 weeks Alps with typical travel luggage plus charge stuff). Nether experienced any issues - even on bad roads with tons of potholes.

Makes me wonder if there is something wrong with the frame because it's only the one side that is having issues.  The right side one would suffer the same as the left one and it's nice and tight and nothing wrong with it.

I like the bags, the 'seem' very well built and sturdy but the mounting for them, I dunno.

I've done *a lot* of touring on mine and use them for the twice weekly shop run with no issues.
