I was thinking that, I might just go get the full airbag for the racing leathers as a dedicated just for that and another jacket just for the road.  Even the alpine star, they have one that WILL do a dual function it can work on road or the track and you select the mode but give up some of the protection? or features by being a jack of all trades and not a master of one.

If I'm doing 140 on a track and go down, I want that vest to go off when it is supposed to as fast as possible, at those speeds YES that extra 2 or 3 ms IS a world of difference.  The way I see it, if you slam into the side of a trailer at 80, that vest is not going to help you much, you pretty much screwed the pooch there because nothing is stopping your brain and organs from slapping around inside you at those speeds, but for most other stuff, it can make the difference between walking away or being carried away via medflight.

The Tech Air 10 offers the absolute best protection on the market because it also protects the hips.

I was considering getting one but the online chat room reviews are horrible in that the system seems to have loads of trouble with charging and LED light indicators, etc.

I also spoke with someone at Alpinestars and they indicated no new batches are being made which seems to indicate the unit is being pulled off the market altogether.

The absolute best VALUE system is the RST with integrated airbag.  Same basic functionality as D-Air, and Tech Air 5, but about half the price if you get it with the suit package.  AND you can easily replace the inflator cartridge in a deployment.  The annual subscription is the best value for that unit.

Max Van, (son of Brian Van owner of STG) races Moto America, and crashes in that suit, frequently, so that is testimonial enough for efficacy.  He is sponsored by RST so take that into consideration.

Actually that suit looks so far to be the best.  I like that is has different modes so you can be protected on the road or on the track.  given its supposedly super breathable that's nice too but on that, do I want to full leathers up just for a ride around town on a sunday morning?

I was also told by some that, if you are sporting around town in full leathers, the cops can get shitty with you, they don't like that very much, they think you are up to no good.  Speaking of shitty, how do you take a crap in one of those full suits? do you have to strip it down past your waist or do they have a zipper in the back or what?

Some time ago I visited a dealer for Gimoto gear. https://store.gimoto.com/categoria-prodotto/prodotti-airbag/
They sell an airbag vest for racing which is reusable several times before you have to send it in for maintenance. The CO2-cartridges you can change on your own. That vest is connected wireless, so you have to install some thingy on your bike.

Choosing your gear will mean you have to compromise. Race stuff is not good for the road and vice versa. Two peace suit is better for a bathroom break, one-piece is much safer.
Leather is better for safety than fabric but hellish to peel off when sweated through. There are suits available with crotch zippers but you have to understand that every zip is a potential breaking point in case of an accident. So maybe yes for road but no for racing.

I wear the same gear on track and on the street.  Learned the hard way that skin is a vital organ and must be protected.  Not going through that again.

To your question, If you need to sit on the can, the suit must come off.

As far as cops go, I always run a radar detector.  They will not care what your wearing if you are at legal speed limit when they notice you.  Don't run stop signs and you are golden.

Aerostich suits are custom fit and are more street friendly and while not for the race track, they look more civilian.  Tech air 5 underneath makes it pretty close to track safe.

Now that you have the gear, take several advanced riding classes and become the safest rider your brain and body have the potential to be :)   Continuing education is crucial.

One more thing.  Wear high viz colors.  I wear a yellow vest over my black suit when on the street and wear a yellow helmet.  Cars are less likely to hit you if they see you.

I also keep keep the high beams on the headlight on all the time.  I don't ride at night.
