2020 ZERO SR/S Intermittent Mild Vibration
« on: September 02, 2022, 10:55:31 PM »

Have a 2020 Zero SR/S with ~ 5000 miles, primarily freeway commuting.  As fellow ebike riders know, one of the first things you notice switching over from an ICE machine, is the near absence of vibration.  The bikes are just incredibly smooth.  However, in the last few months, I've noticed intermittent high frequency, low amplitude vibration in the pegs/grips that's proportional to speed (generally only higher speeds, but again, intermittent).  I've put the bike up on stands and can't feel anything obvious bearing-wise in the wheels.  I've also ensured belt tension is on the low-side of spec, as there are plenty of reports of early bearing failure in the motors.  Coincidentally, the "Commissioning and Timing" maintenance item hasn't been performed, as my local dealership has erroneously omitted it from past service.  I'm wondering if any phase slippage could be introducing harmonics that I'm perceiving as vibration.  Would appreciate thoughts anyone has on this or other suggestions.  Thanks.

I have the same bike. The "Timing and Commisioning" thing I blew off completely and never took the bike in for any servicing, except the firmware problems Zero created. Never made any difference that I could tell. Maybe Im lucky.

Based on what you said this probably is not the cause of whatever you are feeling, but check anyway, if you want. Lots of people including me had all sorts of bad luck with the factory front disks warping or cracking. I went through THREE in the first 5k miles or so before giving up on it... a guy here called Nerveasy or something like that helped me out changing them to EBC branded disks which have served trouble free since then until present, 27k miles so far. There are threads here with the information.

You might have a warped disk. Probably not your issue but super easy to check.
