Zero DSR Battery Dead
« on: August 29, 2022, 08:45:43 AM »

Been riding my other motorcycle and now my 2021 DSR won't charge, the battery is completely dead.

I tried to charge it with the 120V and with my charge tank, no joy.

I can't find anything online about what to do now. How do I get my battery to start taking a charge?

If you got it down less than a few % SOC and left it there for more than a day or so, you may have ruined the battery to the point that it is no more than a useless brick. Not only that, the battery warranty could now be as dead as the battery.

But perhaps if it can be shown the no charging condition came first, you could be okay on the battery warranty.

Good luck.

Hey,,
DonTom, don't scare people like that:) doesn't help the problem at all. If you rode it and came home to charge and it didn't charge, your battery is just fine in terms of deep-discharge.

@ksbman How much battery do you have left? When you try to charge, did you try having having it turned on with the key and then connect it to the wall outlet?
Don't worry, I am sure the problem will be solved:)

Ksbman, is it showing 0% SOC (dash turns on) but you had say over 20-30% when you parked it?

If that's the case, it happened to mine.  It's a firmware bug that puts the bike into hibernation mode randomly.  They made an update that fixed the problem on mine.

Mine would show 0% and not take a charge but I knew I had over 80% when I parked it.  After a couple of days and key cycles ( I have no idea if the key cycles helped or not but it's what I did) it would wake up and show the same SOC as I had when I parked it and run and take a charge no problem.  But it might hit hibernation mode again anytime I keyed it off.

If you get nothing at all when you turn the key on then it may be something more serious, I'm hoping it's just the sleepy bug.

I mean honestly the battery could be salvaged as long as it's still above 56vdc if done carefully. I suggest OP should look into a BMS reset and also pulling the low power B+ fuse.

I took the cover off the battery and measured across the two (of 5) cables marked B+ and B-, getting 0.002VDC.  :'( Haven't found the BMS reset yet.

The dash shows an empty battery and a couple blank lines, key on or off, no change. I don't know how to upload pictures, here.

I tried charging with the key on and off, and plugging it in before and after turning the key on, using both the 120V and charge tank.

That's my fear. >:(

It was charged well last time I rode it (last year) and I did remember to charge it a couple times in the winter, but sorta forgot about it since.

Dang, sorry to hear that.  This is the unofficial manual section on the BMS reset.  It's at the front of the bike behind the rubber cover.

https://zeromanual.com/wiki/SDS_Platform/Unofficial_Service_Manual#Battery_Management_System

I was hoping it was just the firmware but it's more than that.  The other guys have worked with more dead batteries so they'll take it from here.  Good luck.

Doesn't mean anything with the contactor open. Don't panic yet.

Can the BMS be reset if the contactor stays open?

If you would like to send us a DM we would be happy to look into this for you and we can get a technical case started.

Direct Message. Means the same as a PM, so that's what you did anyway.
