2014 Zero SR stolen in Little Rock!
« on: November 27, 2021, 10:38:05 AM »

I just bought it 6 months ago, and now a thief stole it from my house one night. I still have the key and the title, so the thief can't ride it or sell it. I'm asking that if anybody sees a black/red Zero anywhere in or near Arkansas, please message me or the Little Rock police. It might be the ONLY Zero in Arkansas, so it definitely stands out.

You work hard, save up, and buy one nice thing and then a thief comes and steals it for no reason.

F*ckers.

Presumably the 2014 SR doesn't have the GPS stuff in that the newer bikes have?

Cas :)

My guess is that your Zero is sitting somewhere parked on a street somewhere, or in the weeds out of sight, where the thief left it when it ran out of juice.

I still recall when my daughter was going to college at UCSD, her Datsun 510 station wagon was stolen from the apartment parking lot where she was living. She eventually found a couple of months later parked on a street about a mile away with its $50 aftermarket radio/cassette player ripped out of the dash. During all of those months the nearby residents never reported the abandoned car to the cops.  ??? By then she had gotten used to getting around only on a motorcycle and it was another 10 years before she bought another car.

My guess is that you didn't read the OP where he says he still has the key.

Since Zeros do not have a key with a chip, perhaps the thief will try to bypass the ignition switch as is done all the time with stolen ICE motorcycles, then ride it around until the power runs out and then drop it off somewhere. Unless they plan to store it in their garage or backyard along with all of the other stolen items that they no longer have any use for or haven't been able to sell on eBay.  I still think there is a good chance that it will be found along a road somewhere within the approximate radius of the range that was available from the battery pack at the time the bike was stolen.

Unless the thief actually knows something about Zeros and buys a computer cord to recharge the battery pack. But if he does that and decides to ride it around, then the chances of someone seeing it are greatly increased.

In any case, it would be worthwhile to keep an eye on Craigslist, eBay and similar sources, in case the thief decides to try to sell the Zero without the key or title with just a bill of sale and scam the buyer.

Yep. I've been checking all those sites nearly every day. Nothing yet, so I know my motorcycle is still out there somewhere.
As far as hotwiring, people who have the smarts and electronic know-how to bypass the computer can probably afford to just buy a Zero and don't need to sneak around at night stealing one. Also, they're not in Arkansas.

Thanks to whoever stuck this post at the top of the list. Again, I appreciate everyone's help and extra eyes out there. I'll let y'all know if it's ever found.

Best of luck, Alan. I hope you find your Zero and it is still in good condition.

Hallelujah; it's an early Christmas present! After a little more than a year, I got a call from the Little Rock Police Dept. this weekend. My motorcycle has been found inside some idiot's house in some little town in Arkansas I've never heard of. The cops were there with a warrant for another reason, and they happened to find my Zero, too.

Somebody from the impound lot sent me photos. Looks like the thief pried out the 'ignition' switch with a flathead screwdriver and was able to start it by cramming in a screwdriver and turning it. The front and rear fenders, my front-fork tool-bag, and my cellphone holder are all missing. Plus, one of the turn signal stalks is now held on with electrical tape. Don't know why thieves can't take better care of the things they steal.

Glad you got your bike back and know who stole it! Back in the late 70s, a friend of mine found the punk that stole his newish Yamaha 250 Enduro.  He broke both his arms and then gave him a ride to the Hospital.  Shortly after the Do0d got the casts off, he went to the house and snapped them again! No charges were filed.  :)

Why were no charges filed?

Was it legal in PA back in the 1970s to break people's arms for revenge?

It was 20 miles away in New York on The Reservation, and things haven't changed much since.

Assume that you got it back.
Hope the battery is in good shape.
