Not exactly a name that rolls off of your tongue. Here is a link to the article about this new electric motorcycle: https://electrek.co/2022/08/14/ryvid-anthem-launched-electric-motorcycle/

Frankly the styling kinds of turns me off. Plus, that 4.3 kWh battery pack is only going to take you the advertised 75 miles if you keep the speed down to 30 mph. Also, there doesn't seem to be any mention of how you can buy the bike. Is it on-line and have it delivered to your home in a box and then it is up to you to get it registered at the DMV, or will they be establishing a retail dealer network? So I will wait until I see one in person - if I ever do.

There certainly are a lot of startup companies designing and introducing new electric motorcycle models lately, but will they be around in a year or two? It is one thing designing a prototype and it is something else making a profit manufacturing and selling enough of them so that you can stay in business long enough to get established in a pretty small marketplace. My thought continues to be that there isn't much money in selling freeway-legal electric motorcycles until you see the Japanese brands entering the market.  ???

I saw that article.  I'm guessing their idea of "Freeway legal" is to hop onto to the interstate for one exit, and get right off and hope there's a charging station nearby?  I doubt freeway legal means "toddle along the shoulder at a walking pace" anywhere in the US.

Maybe I missed something but Richard is the only one mentioning the freeway, I couldn't find it in the article or on their site. I suppose it's just a useful way of categorising bikes based on their top speed, differentiating between something like a Sur-ron that does sub 50mph or this bike which can exceed the speed limit on a freeway. I'm curious what the top speed is with the lower gearing that the bikes comes with by default though.

As for my thoughts on the bike that seat looks very uncomfortable and you can't really grip with your knees, hard braking will have you sliding up onto the "tank". The adjustable seat height and frame geometry is a good idea but the seat doesn't need an electrical actuator, just give it a knob you can turn by hand. Having different gearing options is also nice.

Sorry for the confusion.  Where I live "Freeway" and "Highway" are pretty much synonyms for each other.

In California to be "freeway legal" your motorcycle needs an engine size of over 150cc. Don't ask me what they do about electric motorcycles, other if they can kind of keep up with traffic then the cops won't bother you.  I had hopped up my 2004 Aprilia RS50 (before it blew up) so that it had a top speed of 80 mph. While it was completely illegal to ride on the freeway, as long as I didn't create a line of vehicles behind me I was never bothered.   :)

75 mph should be enough to take the Ryvid Anthem on the freeway, at least until range anxiety sets in.  ;)

Ha! no shit? My first motorcycle was a 04 RS50. Regularly rode it on the freeway (law be damned) after upgrading the motor, carb and adding a pipe.

*not mine but same livery.


My 2c on Ryvid; I think they did a good job of creating a bike that fits well into a specific use case at a price point that is approachable. The adjustable seat and gearing ratio are unique features, would like to see more info about how the ratio adjustment works.
The only way you would get the claimed 75 miles or range out of the 4.3kWh battery pack (assuming that is nominal capacity) is by averaging 58Wh/mile (4300/58=74.1), that is some very efficient riding.
The tank design just makes my thighs hurt, the limited surface area and sharp edges give you no place to form a solid connection to the bike.
I am a fan of them making the battery pack modular. Although it is on the heavy side it dose provides a solution for people living in locations that lack street level charging.

The adjustable gearing is just swapping the pulleys and belt, if you scroll down to the "Consistent Quickness" section they have an image showing it. I was thinking maybe it would be some sort of manually controllable CVT, that would be pretty neat.

After my  Aprilia RS50 broke its connecting rod, the bike was sold to a fellow in the East Bay who converted it to an EV using a Zero drive train (he might have had connections to the factory) and then rode it around the Laguna Seca race track at an EV demonstration day. Photos attached.
