The Nb doesn't look exactly street legal to me.  ::)

It appears to be a purpose-built Bonneville Land Speed Record bike and the video was released... 1 day before it was announced Bonneville is canceled due to flooding this year.

Agreed...definitely looks like a technology demonstrator.

Does anyone know if they've delivered Strikes that meet the advertised specs yet? IIRC the few that had been delivered were essentially prototypes that didn't meet the advertised specifications.

My guess is they're focusing on technology demonstrators to raise cash. I doubt anyone considers them a credible consumer focused company anymore.

One of these days, a reputable company with a history of actually delivering bikes will make a semi-streamlined electric bike. It will probably flop like the BMW C1 and every other commercial attempt at a streamlined or cabin motorcycle, but I’ll buy one if I can afford it and if it uses a known powertrain, like if it is developed under the Energica Inside program. Paired with the Experia motor and a ~15 kWh battery, a bike like that should have almost 200 mi highway range and ~25 min recharge times to 80% while still being the fastest “car” on the road.

Never forget the ZZR1100 did 180mph with a mere 135bhp at the rear wheel back in the early 90s. And it turns out it does 60mpUKg when you ride to the speed limits. Efficient fairings are possible without resorting to nutso streamliner styles!

Cas :)

I am more confused now than I was before I watched that video...

None of the listed parts that have been "infused" (?) with Niobium have any benefit on a bikes top speed.
  • Brake rotors - First how do better rotors help you go faster? Second the rotors pictured are off the shelf Brembo T-drive units.
  • Charging - Not sure how more efficient faster charging will help a bike go faster
  • Chassis - Lighter weight does not really help you get to a higher top speed. Most of the really fast bikes running on the salt add Lead ballast to increase traction at the rear wheel.

Also the bike that currently holds the title of fastest electric bike (not sure why Lightning adds the word "super"?) is the Voxan Wattman at 283mph. Granted that was done on a runway not at a Southern California Timing Association (SCTA) event like speed week @ Bonneville. Even with the bikes low coefficient of drag it still required 430hp to reach that speed.

In 2014 Lightning was promoting their Bonneville racer for sale as a street bike. There have been rumors that they might have sold a few since then.
