'23 FXE Questions (availability & accessories)
« on: July 16, 2022, 04:24:57 AM »

Hi, folks.

First post. Long-time rider considering a 2023 FXE as a first electric. Purpose would be as a commuter (about 13 miles each way, mostly freeway) which I'd charge nightly.

My dealer is placing an order and thinks the bike will be available by mid August. Is there any info yet on when these things will actually hit dealers?

I'm also curious about a couple of accessories.

The top box - is that a 34 liter Givi? Would appreciate anyone's experience with what helmets fit in that thing. For reference, my current lids are an RF1400 and a Neotec 2. I'd be happy if just the helmet fit.

Parking Brake Accessory Kit - huh? What do you do without that? Does the bike just roll freely? I park on hills. Do you need to buy and use this if you don't want your bike to roll off?

The commuter screen - Anyone have a pic of an FXE with one of these mounted? I'm interested in seeing it mounted including the connection points if anyone's got that handy.

The SAE wire - can't figure out if it's ignition switched or always on.

Thanks, everyone!

Unless it's a particularly steep hill you can park with the bike pointing up, for peace of mind you can put a velcro strap around the front brake lever or if you're worried about someone removing it you can get locks that hold the brake on.

If the screen is anything like the ones for the other bikes then it just mounts to the handlebar clamps using some longer bolts. More info here including photos: https://zeromanual.com/wiki/OEM_Touring_Screen_Install

The accessory connections are switched, they run off a DC-DC converter that steps the battery voltage of ~116V down to 12V. That can only happen when the contactors close and that only happens when you key the bike on. The newer models (SR/f, SR/s, 2022 SR) have a separate 12V battery so they can have an always on connection.

The 34 liter box can fit a full face helmet. Also, I am selling a commuter screen from my FXS if you are interested. Prob depends on where in the world you are - I am in UT, USA.

I've had that 34L top box for years (Givi E34) and it's perfect. My only complaint is that the cables that prevent it from opening too far are slightly too short. It won't stay open unless the bike is parked level.

I've got a knock-off Givi top box I bought from Amazon and it fits a full face motocross helmet.  Price on it has gone up $23 since I bought it last year though.

The Givi should fit a full face helmet too.
