« on: July 06, 2022, 02:59:37 PM »

https://www.zeromotorcycles.com/model-year-23

  • Prices goes up by ~$1.5k
  • DSR still around
  • S/DS back to 14.4kWh and same price as FXE 7.2??
  • FXS no more? (makes sense)
  • New colors
  • Anything else I missed?

No mention of SR, SR/F or SR/S although I assume this means unchanged rather than discontinued.

Can someone screenshot it? When I first open the page I get a glimpse of a DS and the text "model year 23" but before it can load the page 404's.

Here in the UK the FXE/FX are already are hard sell when the price has gone up by like £2k (~$2.4k) with the government grant no longer applying, if they do the same here and raise it another £1.3k no one will be buying them. That would bring them to pretty much the exact cost of a 14.4 S/DS (the 7.2 models are no longer available here by the looks of it).

It's a scroll page of content so would be hard to screenshot.  Do you subscribe to one of those VPN companies?  Try a different browser?

I tried it in Firefox instead of Chrome and got the same thing, however it's loading correctly on my phone (turns out it's to do with the location selected, I hadn't visited the site on my phone before so it defaulted to America). It doesn't specifically say those are the prices for the 14.4 models, that's just what's in the photo. As it only seems to apply to America it's a good assumption that the 14.4 models will be available there now and it's not just a mix up of using the wrong photos from a different market, however the prices could still be for the 7.2 models. Looking at the current price of the FXE on Zero's site it looks like the price has only increased by $700 dollars though, from $12,195 to $12,995.

If you change the country selection to United States, it should come up then...  It seems the 2023 model announcement is USA only.

The price increase on the DSR is pretty extreme, from $15.5k -> $18k. Just adding a charge tank would put you over $20k (unless they raised the price so much because it now comes standard with one), which is getting uncomfortably close to Experia territory with nowhere near the capability. The 7.2 kWh bikes at $13k are similarly in danger of being compared to the LiveWire S2 at $15k, which is much sexier, faster, has a bigger battery, and includes L2 charging as standard.

Just like the Cypher upgrade debacle, Zero is operating in a bubble as if they still have no close competition. Livewires don't cost $30k anymore, and Energica gets more competitive and gains more buyer awareness every year, to say nothing of Triumph's impending entry. Zero may still have more brand recognition of the 3 major e-moto manufacturers, but that will change if they keep this up.

Since Livewire S2 is "shooting for 100 mile city range" per most reports, it would fall inbetween the range of an S (7.2 is 89 miles) and DSR (14.4 is 163 miles).   If Zero had the new battery chemistry on the S, DS, and FXE models, they would be at 100 city miles too.   So I don't think you can really compare the Livewire S2 to a DSR as they just don't have the same battery size based on the range comparison.

I guess we will have to wait for exact details on the upgrades for 2023.  But given the large price jump of the DSR, I hope they do make the charge tank standard on the bike, or at least the 3kW charger the SR has.

That page has now been updated with what looks like the correct photos of bikes, i.e S/DS with the 7.2kWh battery, but all photos are for bikes that have the CT installed. (see attached screenshot of the DSR)
So maybe they're throwing in the CT? Or another bad choice of image?

I wasn't. I was comparing the 7.2 kWh S/DS to the LW S2, and the DSR to the Energica Experia. If they start throwing in the CT's, then at least they'll be cheaper than the competition, but if it's even money for an S/DS w/ CT against an S2 and $20,200 for a DSR w/ CT against $23,750 for an Experia, Zero will fare very poorly in those comparisons.

IMO, it is very difficult to give range on an electric motorcycle because of too many variables which will  affect the range.

But most get around 10 miles per KWH of easy, slow riding.

So if you have a 7KWH battery, move the decimal point over one position and get your easy riding range, 70 miles, etc.

So forget about the range claims, just check the battery size and figure the rest out by the total weight, speed, direction of wind and such to see if you should add or subtract from that 70 miles.

By strange co-incidence, at the same time Zero are announcing 2023 models in USA, I have just received an email from Zero UK, announcing that the 2022 models have now arrived in the dealers!

International shipping must've gotten really slow  ;)

A 2023 model in the USA is a 2022 model in the UK. It's the same year bike or car. They just call it differently in the USA than in the UK.

I don't see any mention of the "S" being available with a 14.4 battery on that page.
