My comments come from my experience with the first electric motorcycle that I bought in 2009. It was a Electric Motorsport GPR-S, bolted together in Oakland, California. It was an interesting and easy to assemble design that used a chassis made by Tiger in Thailand, which arrived at their "factory" fully assembled, including battery boxes. EMS was an electronics supply company and had a lot of parts on their shelves. They had a small team of workers who attached an electric motor, installed 20 or 24 Chinese-made High Power brand lithium block batteries, added an off-the-shelf fork lift controller and a locally manufactured BMS on an open circuit board to the chassis. The bikes sold for $8,300 USD. Top speed was around 65 mph and the range was about 20 miles on the highway or 40 miles at 30 mph - when the batteries were new.

It all worked pretty well for a while, but did have a few weak links. Such as the batteries couldn't handle the motor's electric power demands and would start dying after a short while. Sometimes the BMS or charging system would overload and fail and when you went back to the company they didn't really want to deal with warranty issues - especially when their DMV retail permit expired and they forgot to renew it. Finally, they changed their brand name to Native and started selling their bikes out of small electric bicycle retailers. But the warranty complaints continued, which they tossed back to their retailers. As the warranty work continued to pile up, the retail outlets were overwhelmed and the shop that I dealt with went out of business during the fall of 2010. Not long after that, the brand faded away and the company went back to selling electronic parts.

It really wasn't a bad design for the times, but the battery selection was completely wrong and the EMS just didn't seem to have the necessary knowledgeable vehicle marketing staff and engineers. Plus they appeared unwilling to invest sufficient funds in their company to continue development of their motorcycles and to back up their retail outlets. If they had stuck with it, developed a better product and actually established a good marketing system, they might still be in business today. But they didn't.  (I don't believe that they were ever able to sign up an established motorcycle shop as a retail outlet. They dealt with small mom-and-pop brick and mortar shops.)

While this story has nothing to do with your company, or with the current state of the two-wheel EV market, I just thought I would mention my early experience with the electric motorcycle industry as a consumer. My first GPR-S lasted 300 miles before the charger caught on fire in my garage. Then I bought a 2010 model with a golf cart brushed motor and on that one the batteries started puffing up at 1300 miles. Fortunately, Zero arrived on the scene at my local Japanese-brand motorcycle shop and i ended up buying a 2012 Zero, which was a huge improvement over the EMS models. I have stuck with Zero ever since and have been satisfied with their products.

Anyway, from a customer's perspective, product support and customer service are the things that we really appreciate.

Richard, thank you for the story. yes, I agree, to create a product and "score" on it immediately after release - it's better to do nothing at all. After you have released a product, you must keep in touch with your client, because you want him to come to you in a year and buy a new model, advise his friends, and they also come to buy your product. To create a company for 3 years, 3 years of sleepless nights, from a team of 12 people, for a salary (we live in Ukraine, I won’t even name a figure, you have a couple of days of work for an average company). The team is full of enthusiasm, wanting to create something special... We are not chasing millions (although they will come anyway when the product goes into the normal series). Let me comment on another piece of history, that might ring a bell with you. In 1974 OPEC cut off much of the oil supply to the U.S. due to the middle-east war at the time.  Everyone panicked, especially as back then gas was cheap and the vehicles driven in the U.S. really sucked it down. Drivers were restricted to 10 gallons a day and could only refuel every other day. Plus, stations were limited to the amount of gas they could sell every day. You would think we were back in the USSR during those times. I and my neighbors would get up at 5am and wait in line for the gas station to open at 7 in the hopes of getting our 10 gallons before the station ran out of its quota for the day.

One of the results of that drama was the there suddenly was a huge demand for motorcycles and scooters. People were buying them like crazy in order to use them to commute to work using less gas than their gas-hogging American land yachts. Things got so bad that even Consumer Reports devoted an issue to reviewing a few small motorcycles and scooters, which the had never done before. And it wasn't long before a popular accessory was the locking gas cap, followed by both auto and motorcycles manufacturers installing locking caps on production vehicles. And suddenly, most people were more interested in gas mileage than horsepower.  A couple of small companies even designed and built some small electric mini-bikes powered by auto lead-acid batteries for around-town use.

Back in those days, if they had been available, many people would have begged to be able to buy a small electric motorcycle with the performance that yours has and likely have been willing to pay a premium price for it. Unfortunately the technology and infrastructure at that time didn't exist to meet that market. However, once the war ended and the oil started flowing again, the public's interest in gas efficiency and the possibility of electric power pretty much faded away for the next 30 years.

But if things in Europe go into the dumpster as is now a possibility, there could be a huge demand for electric vehicles and you might find yourselves wondering how you could meet that demand.

Since it has a "normal" size rear sprocket chances are it is a reduction gear type of motorcycle.   How much noise is from the reduction gear, the chain, the tire, or that aparatus it is tied to is not really known.

A powerful motorcycle should not be heard by the operator or passenger at speeds over 50 mph at least for a standard set up with an upright rider.  I guess with a fairing or body work to hide behind things are different.


The whole thing of the exhaust sound, noise if you will and how it effects the mental state of the operator and hence how hard the throtle is twisted certainly can vary from bike a to bike b.

You're right, at speeds over 45+ mph, the sound of the bike is carried by the headwind.  Of course, in the video, part of the "noise" was added by the stand itself, which rotates the engine for resistance and load on the motorcycle itself.  In the course of real tests and loads, it was recorded that the motorcycle does not interfere with the driver at all, and getting used to the motorcycle and its sounds occurs almost instantly.

Engine:

The ScrAmper has an integrated power plant. BLDC - engine with a nominal power of 9 kW and a peak power of 16 kW (7200 RPM) and a 4-speed gearbox. The transmission works similarly to gasoline. The ability of the electric motor to reach a peak power of 16 kW and the ability of the battery to provide the engine with such energy and create a dynamic character ScrAmper.


Charger

The charger is integrated into the motorcycle, which provides a fairly high charging speed. And support for the car standard PLUG 2 (CCS 2) makes it possible to charge the motorcycle at car charging stations. At the same time, having only a charging cable with the socket with which the motorcycle is completed, you can charge the motorcycle simply at home from a household network (110 / 220V).


Battery - HD10 POWERPACK

The ScrAmper electric motorcycle battery has a patented innovative cooling system of HD10 Power Pack elements, which is at the same time simple and inexpensive. Thanks to it, having a nominal value of only 10 kW, the battery can operate in Heavy Duty mode, steadily giving 23-25 ??kW of power for 30 minutes. At the same time, the temperature in the middle of the battery will not rise above 38 ° C and will not reach the critical marks for the elements. Thus, the HD10 Power Pack includes not only the ability to super-return the battery, but also increase the battery speed by 2-3 times compared to the current parameters of ScrAmper.
This allows us to use our POWERPACK in other motorcycles with a more powerful engine in the future. Peak short-term battery power without degradation is 40 kW


Already in February, we are sending a motorcycle to Italy for European certification, and at the same time we are launching the Indiegogo crowdfunding platform to collect orders and resources to start production in Ukraine. minute 3:00  it is kind of loud.  Looks like the knees are above the frame tubes and would contact the fake tank not the metal tubes.  Looks like comfortable suspention as he sits and moves around.  The tail light hopefully will be part of the plate hanger in the next version.

It is quite noisy, due to the fact that you have to rev it up in order to get some torque. When I rode it, I was not able to put it into first gear. 2nd was lowest. In order to compensate this, I had to rev it a little more.
But it is by far not as loud as an ICE bike. I really loved to ride it. It was helluva fun!
