Zero SR/S MBB V23 - faster charging with higher fan speed?
« on: June 16, 2022, 02:09:29 AM »

Have you seen something similar? I own a SR/S with 12KW charger. Today I received at the dealer an update to the latest firmware. I charged three times today. The first station was a 22KW charger with a nice display showing the charging speed. It peaked at 12.6 KW. The dash at the bike showed 11.9 KW at this point. I think this is the charge rate at DC. I have never seen 11.9 before. 11.5 was the max. Similar behavior at the next stop with no display at the charger, but still 11.8 KW at the bike dash.

At home I attached a devices at OBD2 and tracked a single phase charging session. Note: Single phase charging utilizes a 3KW charger. This was the output of the logger:

Today I got on AC 220V * 14.4A = 3168W and on DC I got 100.7V * 29.9A = 3010W.

I looked up roughly 60 older log files with single phase charging data. The highest output was

In this session (the best from all history) I received on AC 3066W and on DC 2928W. Today I got a 3% improvement on charger 1. I don't have exact figures for the 3 phase charging, but my gut feling is, that I have seen overal 2-3% better charging speed than before.

This sounds great, but there is a big caveat. The charger fans went at extremly high speed. The speed is that high, that it actually sounds mechanically not healthy to me. My neighbor called me since he was concerned something is broken with the bike.

Do you have any explanation for this? May be this is in preparation for the cipher store upgrade (10% charging improvement for the two 3KW chargers)? May be Zero enabled higher fan speed to mitigate possible thermal problems if charge speed gets to 3.3KW / charger? But why do I see higher charging speed without any cipher upgrade? I first thought that I got the 10% improvement in error, but I only get 3% improvement...

Appreciate any insights or experience with V23.
