I am looking to you all for some feedback on motor temperatures. I don't have a motorcycle but I do have two Zero 75-7R 2019 motors that I installed in a Polaris RZR and a Polaris Outlaw. My builds are complete and I have been riding them. Since I got the motors used I don't have the original DCF files from Zero so I have no guide as to what to set the overheat limits to. I did find a spec that said the motors can run up to 160 C !! ... that seem very high and I am sure I should be running them at that high of temperatures long. This leads me to my question ...

What are real world motor temperatures are you all seeing?

OR

Does anyone have an original DCF file intended for a Zero 75-7R motor so I can see what the factory setting should be?

You might be asking yourself how am I getting the motor so hot, it shouldn't be an issue right? With my Outlaw it doesn't seem to be but with the RZR it is 1600lbs so when set the torque to 150NM it will heat up fast! I need to limit the torque so it doesn't overheat but what should the goal temperature range be?

Thanks all for your help!

Cheers,
Patrick

P.S. Here is a link to the build pictures on facebook

Its been a while, but I want to say that my 2018 FXS (should be a 75-5 motor) would start to slow me down if the motor temp went over 100C.

My bike with a 75-5 will limit power if the motor temp goes a little over 120°C, and it's one of the 11kW models which supposedly have a lower temp limit. So, seeing 160°C from a 75-7 doesn't sound too ridiculous. I do wonder if the temp reading on my bike is accurate though, when the bike is first turned on the motor temp reading is always like 10°C higher than ambient.

I have found that both of my motors read 8C high as well, I was thinking of calibrating it out. Though I only know this because I was able to saturate the motor on various temperature days and from 0C to 20C it has been off by 8C constantly.

Your reply is surprising in that I was thinking anything over 100C is too hot. It is VERY helpful to know that it seems 100C - 130C is normal operating temperatures.

Thank you for taking the time to reply!

I have a 2021. The controller is set to start derating the motor after the thermistor gets above 145C. By 165C, output is down to 6%.
