While I wait for my new Ribelle to be built and shipped, I’m dreaming of all the riding I’m going to do on it, including longer trips than I could ever pull off on my Zero SR.

My SR does have relatively large top and side boxes, though.  I ordered the Ribelle with the side soft cases and the tank bag. Now I’m looking for a tail bag I can mount on the pillion seat without disrupting charger access. Ideally it would be fairly large and have a back rest pad.

Do folks have recommendations or experience to share that would help in my search for the perfect bag?

For a large top box with a backrest you are most likely going to have to build the mount yourself. The link above is how one person made the mount.

I recall that there is a company that makes a very large horizontal soft U-shaped bag that fits around the side of the passenger's seat. Unfortunately, I can't recall the name of the company. (Perhaps something like "Giant Loop"?) It used to be popular with BMW riders who had installed hard luggage but needed more space when carrying a passenger. The center of the bag could be placed on the luggage rack and its "wings" would extend across both saddle bags for support, while still leaving room for the passenger on the rear portion of the seat.

You are going to have to pack pretty light with the factory luggage. It's pretty small. Pretty much big enough for a wine bottle and some charcuterie.

While I like that the Givi top box on my Zero is large enough to bring a large pizza home with me, I’m not wanting to put a top box on my Ribelle. I’d just like a bag I can put on the rear seat now and then for the longer trips that doesn’t encumber lifting the seat for charging.   I found the big bag that was mentioned when shopping on RevZilla’s site. But knowing what will mount nicely with the lifting seat will be a challenge until I get my bike, I guess.  Then I can fully inspect the seat and lifting mechanism.

Was just hoping others have been down this road snd had insight.

I think any weight on the seat will not allow the seat mechanism to open. It's basically just a spring with a lever. When you unlatch it the seat pops up. Any small weight on it and it closes back down.

Ok so I just checked and if you put something on the very back of the seat it will stay open. You're in luck.. let us know what you come up with when you get the bike.

This is what I'm running as a custom case solution. For me I already had the Energica soft bags but those aren't water tight (not even with the covers as I found out) and a MacBook didn't really fit. So I made some adapters to bolt on a peli case (cheaper alternative).



All files can be found at the link below. I've tested version 0.6 on highway speeds (and above) without issues. Version 0.7 adds a 3rd bolt on the top bracket for extra security. There are also files in there to cover regular hex nuts inside the case so they don't scratch up what you carry. Bolts used were (metric) 4x M6x70 for the bottom and 4x M6x40 for the top. And some washers and nuts with nylon inserts.

Kind of a shame you can't get aerodynamic equipment boxes but it's a neat solution.

The main problem with the Energica (Givi) side cases isn't volume (you can expand them) but the internal shape. If they didn't have the indent to allow for a passenger's legs, they would fit an average 15" laptop fine.

I've resorted to wearing a backpack for my work laptop.

When I had an EsseEsse9, I found a Kriega drypack (10l and 20l) worked well strapped down on the passenger portion of the seat. The SS9 seat is broad and flat enough to allow a strap on bag to work well. Unfortunately, the shaped seat of the Ribelle doesn't work as well with strap on bags.
