FXE Battery Pack Specs
« on: September 10, 2021, 02:34:38 AM »

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone knows the specs for the FXE Battery Pack.  I want to get the elcon 3.3kw charger but need to know the specs of the battery so they can pre program it before sending it.

Thanks in advance!

The FXE has the same 7.2kWh pack that's in the old FX/FXS and S/DS.

It consists of 28 cells in series (28*4.14v=116v) and I believe 2x parallel for the 7.2kW/h (31Ah per cell and the entire pack is somewhere between 60-70Ah depending on what voltage or exact capacity you use for the calculation).

Can you charge this pack with the Elcon 6.6KW charger then?

1C is the limit for the cells. But I am not sure if the charge fuse on the FX models support that. Maybe the experts can help.

In the unofficial manual, it doesn't really say anything explicitly about the charge fuse for the 2013+

The FX bikes have the standard 100A fuse in line with the accessory charge port and an additional 10A fuse in line with the onboard. There haven't been any changes to that setup maybe since 2013. Unless someone pops up and tells me it doesn't, I don't see why you couldn't use an elcon 6.6

I don't think so.  The charge tank puts out 57 amps, the elcon would put out up to 64.  I believe 57 is the limit for the 7.2 battery (1C).  You could use a 3.3 elcon, your on board charger, with a J1772 to C13 adapter, that would give you almost 4KW.  The "dumb" elcon's won't enable the charge by itself anyways (hence the need for the on board charger).

Does anyone know if someone got the 3.3kw charger to work with CAN BUS and arduino?  I saw the progress with the raspberry pi, but the 30 second boot up time is a bit annoying...  Or has someone created an off the shelf product yet?

If you are going with the CAN bus version of the charger you could probably go for the 6.6 and just CAN control the output to less than 1C. I had originally thought of using a Thunderstruck EVCC.

Yes I have done it and there are a few other people who have as well. The ability to change charge current has been well worth it. There is quite a bit of canbus info for both the charger and the bike on this forum if you dig enough.

Yes. See:

Diginow Supercharger v2 and newer used arduino control units and proprietary code to do that, now discontinued. Also as mentioned previously the Thunderstruck EVCC:

Am I missing something? $50 in materials (arduino), that can read the BMS stats and pass the info to an elcon CAN bus for $300?  Sorry, if I sound a little shocked at the cost.

I buy this( https://www.hobbytronics.co.uk/leonardo-canbus) , connect to obc, and connect pins to elcon charger can bus (2 pins) to send signals to control the charger, and voila?

Plug and play vs DIY with no support. FWIW that code doesn't interface with the obc.

There is no info to 'relay', the controller would interpret the information from the obc, and tell the charger what to do based on that information. This is where charge algorithms come into play.

You can also get much cheaper canbus transceivers off of amazon. My BOM was around $10.
