Author Topic: Charging the 21.5 kWh battery on 110. How fast are you getting?  (Read 834 times)

For those of you with the 21.5 kWh battery how fast are you charging on 110 volts? My Ribelle charges at 1kw/6A. Actual wattage based on a load meter is 750 watts. A rider I know with an Esse charges at 1kw/12A. His actual wattage is 1250-1400 watts. The Esse can fully charge in about 13 hours, my Ribelle takes over 25 hours. What is everyone else seeing out there?

Full 3kW @240VAC - displays 14-Amps.

Try your bike on his outlet. Just out of curiosity. Also what EVSE stations are you both using? Same ones? Different models?

MVetter, I am using the Clipper Creek that came with my  Eva 107 (which did charge at 12A) I am not sure what EVSE Chris is using.

Eva 107 and Eva Ribelle have different chargers, no?

Eva Ribelle is not offered w/ 110VAC L2 device, based on my purchase experience.

So the Ribelle doesn't come with a way to plug into regular 110 power? I guess I need to put a 220 plug into my garage then, because I'm waiting for my Ribelle to be delivered, hopefully in the next month or two.

I wonder if it depends on the country. I don't think a 120 VAC  granny cable would have much use in Europe, but it would in the USA.

I think the point here is that "Level 2" doesn't exist at 110V. Basically Level 1 is 110/120V and Level 2 is 220/240V.

You can probably contact Energica and ask them about the supplied charging cables for your location, and their minimum circuit requirements for your garage.

Of course it does. The onboard charger takes input anywhere anywhere between 100-250 vac and outputs between 250-400 vdc as the bike requires. EVSE stations, aka the glorified extension cords, give AC power to the charger with the little bit of communications protocol it requires to be compliant.

The switch-mode losses are significant @ 115VAC and the flat form-factor for construction speaks to little if any built-in power factor correction, so not sure why this is such a surprise unless the root question becomes, is the SS9 charger the same as the Ribelle charger?  They both work on 115VAC but seemingly at different efficiencies?

I posted this question on the EM thread over on advrider.com. I got this response from voltsxamps:

"Both it seems. The pics show 6A and 10A (was 12A before tapering to balance). One is my 21.5 and the other is my friend’s 21.5. Both started with the roughly the same SOC and charging for the same amount of time.

We swapped chargers, outlets, and double checked settings. Stefano and Chris are aware of the 110v/A difference and have been speaking to them about it this past week. A third fellow rider in my area also confirmed the 6A/12A 110v difference. I’ll share details as soon as I reconnect with Chris. I recommend reaching out to Stefano or Chris about it as well."

750 watts on my Ribelle also. Are you on firmware 39?

Yes I am on FW 39. Have updated firmware several times but it has never changed to charge rate on 110.
