Hi

I have another newbie question and would appreciate some thoughts. I have <1000 miles on the bike and usually keep the charge around 60%,  since I'm not out much due to weather.

Yesterday I let it charge to 80 and so today since the weather is better I charged to 100. I was surprised that it took less then 1 hour to go from 80-100.   I had been told that the last 5% could take 2-3 hours.    It has shut down and I was curious why it didn't take longer.  Also I had recently updated firmware to 19.     I may just be a little neurotic, but I wanted to ask those with more experience

Whoever told you 2-3 hours is misinformed. On Zero's site it's 4 hours to 95% and 4.5 hours to 100% (2 and 2.5 hours for the premium model), so an additional 30 minutes.

Just confirming that once it shuts off, its ok to unplug. I was at 80% and it went to 100% and shut off in less than an hour

Well, it's okay to unplug it at any point in the sense that it won't do any harm. Every now and then you'll want to let the bike charge to 100% and shut off on its own as that's when it will be balancing the cells, you can check the current draw using the app and when it drops that's the transition from charging to balancing and you'll also be able to see what the cell balance value is. I think I've seen other people say that if the bike has the charge target set then it will start balancing once it reaches the target instead of 100% (I have a DS which doesn't have the charge target option so don't have any experience with it).

BTW yesterday I charged my 2018 S to 100% until the charger turned off (typically about 15 minutes after the SOC indicates 100%).  I checked my cell balance and it was alternating between 2 and 3 mA.

Below is a sneak preview of a video I made about charging a standard SRF that is limited to 3kW. I charge from a 220V outlet limited to 12A so the bike shows around 2.5 to 2.7kW most of the time. Here I had it completely depleted and added a meter in between to see how much it took.

There are more video's coming soon, this was done because this bike has the magic charging issues and way less range than my own. I just wanted to be sure the battery is fully addressable. And it is.

At 0% SOC it reported it would take 3:50 for a full charge at first. Once that time passed it had reached 90% SOC. It took up to 4:20 to reach 100% SOC on the display but still didn't ramp down on charge speed (note I'm only charge at just below 3kW). Only at 4:25 it very slowly went down to stop completely at 4:30.




For those wondering about how it behaves when in low charge: Once you reach below 20% it will feel much like ECO mode, even if you have it set to sport. So acceleration is sluggish and you can't go above 120 kmh. Once you go below 5% it gets a lot worse on the throttle response. You can hold it fully open and the bike will just gain speed. It still goes but you need a lot of time.
