2015 SR won't go faster than 80mph
« on: January 24, 2021, 03:00:40 AM »

Hello, My 2015 SR  won't go faster than 80 mph. I'm the original owner. It has 6207 miles on it. Its had two problems in the past. BMS board and the DC to DC module replaced. The throttle meters power smoothly. Any Ideas guys?

This could be battery performance, motor controller, or throttle.

Both of the former require dealer software to diagnose and repair.  The latter can probably be diagnosed with a multimeter, but I don't know what the correct output of the throttle is.

Do you have your custom settings maxed out on the Zero app? Sometimes the performance settings seem to slip at times for no apparent reason.

Thank you Crissa and Richard230 for your replies. Crissa your suggestions will help me to talk intelligently about the issue at the dealer. Richard230, I do not have custom settings. I ride it on sport mode.

Does it feel like the throttle input stops as you approach the full throttle position? The throttle position is directly proportional to the torque output so does it feel like perhaps you're not getting 100% torque anymore? It takes a certain amount of torque to hold a certain speed, so I think if you go full throttle at 80mph and then roll off the throttle a tiny bit your speed should decrease right away, if you have to roll off the throttle a significant amount then there's a problem.

People have had a similar problem caused by a faulty throttle and I think on the older bikes it's easier to measure the resistance of them, a search on here for something like "throttle issue" will probably bring up some appropriate threads.

I think you should try setting your custom mode to 100% torque and speed. I have found that the custom setting seems to be able to pull more performance out of my Zero than does the sport setting.
