Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I'm experiencing these symptoms and I'm wondering if anyone has been able to pin-point what the issue may be?

I have a 2016 Zero FX with the same kind of sound.  Zero and dealer says it the motor shaft and that motor has to be replaced.  $1,500 parts.  its out of warranty.  here is a youtube video with just the motor running with the belt disconnected.

Erugh, yeah, that sounds like a bent pr broken sprocket.

Just look at the eccentricity of that sprocket 

The motor bearing might be in a million pieces. Possible this can contribute to a bike fire. Yikes!

With the belt off and I rotate the sprocket by hand you can feel a magnet hit a stator point inside the motor at one degree position.  that sound you hear I believe is that clash, most likely due to a bearing and or shaft issue.

My belt (SR 2015) only makes a sound like that when t is wet. In dry conditions it does not sound like that/
