FW Version with 3G/LTE functionality - when?
« on: December 06, 2020, 02:46:23 PM »

All,

I‘m not sure where but I think I remember seeing a post about Energica’s plans to utilize the 3G connection for the iPhone/Android app to remotely check charging status. Now it went quiet about such feature over the last couple of months.

Any facts or speculations about this?

Energica has mentioned long range connectivity on their web site for a few years now as an option but don't think it has ever been developed. But yes as Crissa said, 3G is being phased out.

Well, LTE is being phased out.

Not for anytime soon.

Actually, I‘m not sure if Energica uses 3G or LTE. Does anyone know?

I'm pretty sure they don't have cellular capability but maybe Demoni can confirm. Depending on how it's engineered, I can't see why you couldn't retrofit cellular capability onto our bikes and I would seriously consider adding it if it were offered.

Just looked up the manual - page 38, section 16 „connectivity“: It mentioned GPS and Bluetooth but no cell... :-[
This indicates you are right. Let‘s see if Demoni can comment on this.

I'm hoping long range connectivity is available by the time I decide to take my bike on a 250 mile trip for a firmware update.

Thankfully, there's charging stations like ChargePoint which shares SoC real-time.

I'd love to have API access at some time where we could ingest some consumption, power, GPS & telemetry info. Makes logging road trips real easy.
