Why is A Better Route Planner... Not?
« on: November 23, 2020, 04:45:04 AM »

I keep trying to use ABRP and it just... Well... Sucks.

Here, if I wanted to get fresh salmon from a fishing dock, I need to go to Half Moon Bay or Moss Landing.

So I ask ABRP how I should get there and... It tells me to get on the freeway, drain my battery, charge my battery (it assumes the new fast charger), and then discharge it again.

But looking at Google, I could just go along the top and stay on the top... And get there in one charge.

What the heck is it thinking?  Is it not counting the hour charge as part of the route?  Why are its alternates so bad?  This is the first time it even offered alternates, and they still suck.

I did a little playing around on ABRP and the route it suggests depends on the vehicle you are using and its settings. Are you using one of the default Zero's from the list or your own custom vehicle?

When you pick "Zero SDS ZF 7.2" it will route you North to 280 because it determines you can not make the destination (using the battery capacity and the average consumption of 143Wh/mi)
However if you "Zero SDSZF 12.5" it will route you to the coast to HW1.

In the vehicle settings you can change your average consumption (Wh/Mi @ 65mph), default on the Zero's is 185. If you lower that number to 130 it will change the routing of the 7.2kW bike away from the freeway and no charging stops.

But you wouldn't have an average consumption of 143Wh/mi unless you take the freeway.  The power requirements of 40-50mph is much less than at 65-70.

From what Demoni said it would appear the app takes speed into account as it asks for the average consumption at 65mph.
