First potential problem on my DSR
« on: November 05, 2020, 04:44:12 AM »

Well at 37k miles my 2016 DSR finally shows a potential issue. The dash is showing error codes 20, 28, 29:

20 - BMS Low Isolation
28 - BMS Isolation Fault
29 - BMS Isolation Danger

When I start up the bike the Danger symbol flashes rapidly, but when I put the kickstand up and turn the killswitch off and twist throttle a bit the errors go away, but they are coming back each time I start the bike up.

I skimmed some other threads but I don't know how it all relates, or what my problem is exactly.

Are these huge problems in the future? Worst case scenario does my bike just die?

Any help is appreciated

Did you happen to wash the bike recently, with a hose? That's what caused my isolation faults (think it was chassis and not BMS though), all went back to normal within a few days. I think the BMS is particularly susceptible because there's the access port to the LEDs and reset buttons behind the front wheel (the round plug, you can pull it off by hand to reveal the hole) which water can get in quite easily and there's just some dielectric grease protecting the circuitry.

That is helpful thank you, long term usage while the bike shows these errors seems like a bad idea but I gotta use my bike, I uploaded logs here but I'm lost with them.

It sprinkled 2 days ago! but it was a very light sprinkle.

Dealership is a bit far (the one I bought the bike from closed shop =(    but if there are ANY suggestions at all for what to check I'll take them, please! I know there is a ground wire near ignition switch / under body plastics / even one on the swingarm. It seems to be the case that if I give it throttle, it works, but the errors keep showing as I ride it.

It’s my understanding that there are jumper wires installed in two locations to protect the swingarm & steering bearings from electrical current.
Without these jumpers, micro pitting could occur resulting in damaging the bearing balls/races.

I have had an isolation problem on the plug of the dc-dc converter. There was green corrosion in the grease in the plug. Cleaned the plug, applied new grease, problem solved.
