A new LiveWire recall
« on: October 22, 2020, 03:23:03 AM »

However, this one doesn't sound too bad - as long as you don't have the problem. Somehow the OBC manages to shut off the power while you are riding. But it only affects 1% of the bikes that were built between March 18, 2019 and August 20, 2020. The solution is a firmware update performed by a LiveWire dealer: https://www.motorcycle.com/mini-features/harley-davidson-issues-recall-for-select-livewire-models.html

Thanks for that. I just sent that link to my LW buddy who lives in New Castle, CA.

One wouldn't expect an OBC software glitch to shut down a motor, but with all the digital stuff these days anything can happen. Many problems that seem hardware related are really software and vice versa.

The dealer drove 2 hours to my place yesterday evening to do the upgrade. Took about 90 seconds.  Great service. (I'd had no problems while riding).

Got mine fixed today. Seemed like a quick fix.

Without the on board computer, how would you operate the motor safely, Don?

OBC=On Board Charger.

"Harley-Davidson has issued a recall for Livewire models built between March 18, 2019 and August 20, 2020, because of a software fault with the On-Board Charging (OBC) System that can shut off the motorcycle without warning."
