Looking at ordering one of the new Ribelle+ and I was wondering about the suspension options. I read the Ohlins dealt with the bike weight much better in the previous models. Do people feel it is needed on the Ribelle+? I have zero intentions to track the bike (more than once that is). Coming from a Multi Enduro, I always thought the bike felt like on tracks no matter how much I screwed up. My wife has a Zero SRF (perfect for her size btw, a bit too small for me) and I fell it's twitchy as hell. Very much fun though.

Unfortunately the answer to "is the Ohlins upgrade needed?" is dependent upon the rider. A few points:
1. The general consensus is that replacing the rear shock with something with more adjustability is the approach heavier riders take.
2. I personally recommend sticking with the stock suspension at first. Make sure it's probably adjusted...if your dealer can't/won't do it there are usually suspension shops that will do it for you for 30-60 minutes of labor cost.
3. Since aftermarket suspension components (especially rear shocks) are relatively straightforward to replace post purchase, I personally don't see the need to rush into the Ohlins forks and rear shock unless you already know you're going to need that level of performance immediately.

Again, it's a personal decision that no one can make for you. You have to decide what's important for you. Hope this helps in some small way.

I have purchased Ohlins rear shocks in the past on several motorcycles that I have owned. I have found them to be well built, but always set up very stiff for a light rider when used on public roads, in spite of me requesting the lightest spring that they offer for my weight. They seem to be more race track oriented than designed for road comfort. So I would second BigPoppa's recommendation. Give the stock suspension a try first. And keep in mind that it may take several thousand miles for the components to break-in before they function as intended.

I often hear about the high weight of the Energica, well compared to my GSXR1000 of 180kg yes but in comparison with my Goldwing of 379kg and some of my Harley's with weights between 290kg and 340kg that is still nice. The Goldwing has a reverse gear just like the Energica but all the Harley's I have do not have a reverse gear.  So I certainly don't mind the Energica's weight especially because of the reverse gear.

Not the heaviest motorcycle, just observing that maybe the stiff springed Ohlins might work better than for a lighter moto.
