2012 Zero xu - bringing it back from the dead
« on: September 07, 2020, 07:50:16 AM »

Howdy, new poster here. I have a 2012 Zero xu that sat with a dead battery for years. Following a tip found in another thread (https://www.electricmotorcycleforum.com/boards/index.php?topic=8182.0) I had the battery rebuilt. Just got it back today, plugged it in, and all looks good except the headlight, taillight, and instrument panel stay lit even with the key in the off position. I unplugged everything again so the lights don't drain the new battery which has about a half charge on it.
Before the bike went dead due to someone's daughter not plugging it in, I had replaced the taillight with an LED unit. Everything worked fine until the bike was left out in a storm, unplugged, and fell over.
Does anybody know where I might find a schematic for this year, make, and model? Zero's lack of support for the 2012 and older bikes is appalling.

Update: Spent a fair bit of time getting to the ignition switch, finally found the connector to the 'KEY MBB' port. Disconnected the connector which had no effect on the lights and cluster staying lit. That tells me the trouble is somewhere with the MBB.

I found an old thread by @peter with an identical problem - sounds like Zero threw parts at it until it didn't manifest anymore.

That's not good.

Can you unplug the MBB and still have the issue?

They went through a bunch of revisions of the wiring; a relay can get stuck on given the wrong signal.

Sounds like a dc/dc converter is stuck on, check by unplugging the dc/dc if the lights go out and the enable pin doesn't have battery power it's welded internally
