FX 7.2 Trail Range
« on: February 09, 2020, 09:33:16 AM »

Did a 58 mile out and back today: 14 miles tarmac, 44 miles trails, very moderate speeds (4.5 hours), ~1500 climb then descend; pretty surprised to have 25% remaining at finish.

My first ride on my brand new 2020 FX  used 45% to go 45 miles in 2 hours.  A few bursts to 60.  Mostly pavement. Probably 10 miles on gravel and rocky roads. Coming from a TW200 this thing is scary fast in eco.  I’m not planning on going near sport mode.  I used a custom setting of 15% torque with max regen most of the way. Why don’t the custom settings stick.  The next day after recharging it was back at default 40% torque from 15%?

Are you sure your phone is actually connected to the bike and the app's not running in demo mode? In demo mode it will just show the default values, also it will show the state of charge as being 87% for some reason which has caught some people out before. If it is connected then it must be some sort of bug, a temporary fix for now until the app or bike is updated is to not connect your phone to the bike, it won't adjust the settings unless the app tells it to.

Pretty sure it was connected.  I will double check.  I think I may have seen 87% charge and wondered what’s up with that.  I need to spend some time with the manual to figure out the trip odometer etc.  If you’re out enjoying the scenery this bike has all the range that I could possibly want.  My next step is to do some climbing on Mt Shasta with my GPS to monitor elevation gain, loss average speed etc. I think I found a route that will give me 4500 feet of climbing in 16 miles. Calidaves 4.5 hour ride is more saddle time than I  can endure.  Also, in another post I mentioned the TP Link smart 15 amp energy monitoring switch.  You can monitor the charging power and turn it off over the internet. Model HS110.  Thanks for the reply.

Sometimes you have to change screens after you set the custom settings for them to stick, or least that's my experience.  Go back & forth to make sure they're still set.

I use something similar knowing my FXS would take around 9 hours from 0-100%.  I just round up/down to get close to what I want with this: https://www.amazon.com/Century-Digital-Countdown-Repeat-Function/dp/B01D3QEK4E

It's nice we have options for our measly 650W charger.

Thanks I’ll do what you suggested.  Do we really need to limit the charging time?  You would think that the onboard charger would shut off once it’s fully charged.
That’s a nice heavy duty timer for a lot less than a tp link hs 110.  I have control of so many devices from my iPhone that it’s getting ridiculous. The Kasa app that controls all kinds tp link of switches and bulbs is rock solid.

It will shut down when charged, and because it balances the cells once it gets to 100% and this process can take a varying amount of time it's not a good idea to stop charging early on a regular basis. Besides, the time to charge isn't going to be the same every time so you'll need to keep adjusting the timer.

Well, you may want to stop charging at 80% if it you're not planning on using that top 20% the next day.  If you're charging frequently, there's no reason to balance the cells every time.

I get 50-60 miles on trails only depending on how rough the terrain is.
