Hi guys - here is my question - I have both a SAE J1772 Charging Adapter and a Charge Tank for a 2020 Zero DSR ..... do they charged at the same rate ... (I had the adapter from my 2014 Zero and just upgraded to a Charge Tank for the 2020 version) ... I feel dumb because if I knew the adapter charged at the same rate of a Charge Tank - I would have just purchased a power tank instead ... Please tell me there is a difference in charge time or some other con to an adapter

Using the adapter you're still only going to be able to charge as fast as the internal charger allows, so 1.3kw. The charge tank is 6kw and using a public charge station you should get all of that, the rate you get when charging at home can vary though.

The adapter is a dumb unit and just tells the charging station a device is plugged in with resistance; and this plugs into the built-in charger which is designed for Level 1 charging and doesn't exceed that pre-set rate of 1.4KW.

The Charge Tank is a smarter device which should limit its charging to the power available from the J1772 charger that plugs into it.  It charges at up to a rate of 6KW.

I don't know if they can be used at the same time.

Thanks !!! - that makes a lot of sense - I appreciate the answer - I called Zero's customer service and they said they both charge the same - I was confused and then buyers remorse set in... thanks for debunking them

With the original 3kW charge tank, you could combine the two for a total of 4kW if you could hog two ports at a charging station.  I don't think you can do that with the 6kW tank though.  I think I read somewhere that when the 6kW tank is in use (actively charging) the internal charger is disabled but I could be mistaken.

I think you can use both, there's a warning in the manual that it's not supported on the 7.2kW models (don't remember if it simple doesn't work or if they say not to try it) as it could end up charging over 1C.

You can use the 2 chargers at the same time no problem. I do it all the time. Only the 7.2kw battery packs can't (as you would exceed 1C at top charging load) but a 14.4kw battery has no issue when using both.

Maybe I confused what I read about the 7.2kWh batteries then. 
Good to know.  Too bad I sold my adapter to New2Elec...
