Its not even that annoying. If I don't carry my phone and key in the same pocket I don't get the message. You can also easily dismiss it.

Sometimes I have to pull the key from my pocket to start the bike but that's about it. Maybe I have very low expectations after having owned a Ducati, but the key on my wife's Tesla isn't that much better. Also have to sometimes take it out or wait for the car to unlock.

You might want to try a new brand-name battery in your key fob.  I was having similar issues with my BMW when the battery started to die. I replaced the battery with a cheap Chinese "High Power" brand battery, which wasn't any better than the one that I removed from the fob. But when I bought a fresh name-brand battery and installed that in my fob, the bike would sense my fob from about 6' away and everything is working the way it is supposed to, even after a couple of years.   :)

I asked Energica via Twitter.
They answered that it is a bug and that they are working on a permanent fix. Maybe next update?

The "Key not in range" error message has been a problem for almost a year now. On page four of this thread I posted a message on 21 April 2021 after having had the problem for several weeks. I think it is time for Energica to hire some new talent to look at the problem. Just sad.

My SS9+ with keyless is (at last!) on its way to my nearest dealer. After seeing this thread I traded some emails with Laurence. He says it's a keyless gear manufacturer issue, so it affects Ducatis and others too. The firmware fix he claims is about a month off. (Perplexing that this can be predicted.) He also said the workaround is to press the start button a second time "firmly" and ignore the error message.

I did a "Key not in range" search over on the Ducati.ms forum and didn't find anything about the error message on Ducati's. I know Ducati's have had issues with their keyless system but I don't think error codes like we are seeing with Energica's is one of them. Also if it were really a keyless gear manufacturer issue then it would have been a problem at the start which it wasn't. The error message began with Firmware 39 and newer. If you go back to firmware 38 or older it isn't a problem.
