Anderson Connector / external Charger
« on: March 24, 2020, 10:43:39 PM »

Hi all!

I'm new here, and just bought my first motorcycle a few weeks ago: a 2019 FXS 7.2. It's awesome so far!

After reading a lot here and on facebook, I've just ordered a 1800w TC charger from ev-components today. Also ordered the anderson SBS75 plug to connect it to my FXS.

Well, here's my question for which I didn't found an answer so far: Do I need to connect the small pins on the anderson connector to something? And what are they exactly for?

My plan is to charge with the onboard charger and TC charger at the same time. From my understanding, it should be possible with this configuration to take the keys with me, let the bike charge with 2.4kw and it shuts down charging automatically.

thanks!

You would need the small pins if you werent going to be using the onboard charger. This would allow you to key on, charge and then key off and it would continue to charge. If you do some searching here, there is some debate on how to signal the bike that a charger is present. Some have had bad issues using those pins, others have had success. I have a 3.3kw TC charger and just use it with the onboard, no key needed.

Edit: Congrats on the purchase! You bought one of the most fun bikes you can ride.

ok thanks, that sounds good! I'll test it out as soon as I get the charger.

Yep, it's a really fun bike and I get about 100km out of it with mixed driving.. that's enough for me.

The feature is sometimes referred to as the enable line and is documented on the unofficial manual:
- https://zeromanual.com/wiki/XMX_Platform/Charging_Off-Bike

There is some debate about the best (safest) way to trigger the enable line. I believe a 100kOhm resistor is considered sufficient, but have not committed that to the manual because of the source.
