17mm vs 14mm wide belt comparison
« on: October 17, 2019, 08:22:54 AM »

I'm strongly considering purchasing the Luna wide belt conversion kit for my 16 DSR.

I'm wondering how much more durability the 17mm wide belt yields vs the 14mm?

Anyone have experience with both widths?

I had two Zeros with the 14mm belt and I now have one with the 17mm belt.  None of them have ever needed to be replaced. But then I have never owned an SR, just an S model, so that might make a difference.   ???

My 2016 S came with the 14mm belt.  I had over 16,000 miles on the original belt before I got taken out by an inattentive jackass diving into a gas station (and hitting and breaking my left leg).

My replacement 2018 S has the 17mm belt and has a little over 8,000 miles on it.  About the only difference I've noticed between the two is that I found myself adjusting the 14mm belt every couple of weeks.  The 17mm belt hasn't been touched since the 600 mile service and is still within spec.

Similar here: I had around 13K miles on my 2016 SR before It got totaled by a car running a red light, and I replaced it with a used 2018. The 2018 is much louder (winier) than the 2016. I'm wondering how the noise compares between your 2016 and 2018. (broken leg: ouch! I only suffered a crushed 5th metacarpal)

It had literally been MONTHS between the time I rode the 2016 and the time I got the 2018.  The only difference I noticed right away is that the 2018 felt "peppier" than the 2016.  Other than that, I don't know if there was a noise difference between them or not.
