No plans at the time for the 2017 line, but I doubt you'll need it. the new belt seems much more adequate.

Thanks to all who replied to my query as to how often belts break .. should I be concerned.
I'm approaching 4K miles on my 2016 SR, so am not worried about belt breakage in the immediate future. But just purchased one from your ebay store as a safety precaution. Was (very) surprised at the price .. guessed it would be much more.

belts don't break on the SR. belt breakage is almost exclusively an FX issue.

It's not a "how often" issue, it's "what factors are riskiest for belts". I have two Zero's with about 18k miles each on them, still with their original belts with very little adjustment over their lifetimes.

Some have snapped their belts fairly early, maybe from muddy/sandy offroading or too many burnouts and wheelies. ;) Honestly, it can just be bad luck, or else we wouldn't be thinking about guards and spares.

When using the spare belt, I suggest avoiding hard accelerations & keeping top speed at 40-50 kmh.
I tested it much faster, but remember that this is an emergency belt only, and not as rigid as the original one.

For all those S  DS  SR riders, please share how you tucked away the belt in the motorcycle's frame. Be creative 😀

Thanks for the reply - I was thinking with the extra torque of the 2017  DSR / SR the belt might be an issue.

Is why on the 2017 DSR/SR they went with a wider belt than previous years.  Even then I understand snapping a belt is rare.  Props to the zero engineering team for trying... Over and over and over.  Wider belt was the result.

This makes me wonder, isn't it possible to engineer a belt with quick disconnect link instead ? Considering this is an emergency solution, it doesn't have to be as strong
as the original.

I searched for an appropriate link. That would make an elegant solution. Could not find anything suitable without designing and manufacturing.

The rubber emergency belt can not take the loads (caused by torque) that the original belt drive can. It needs to be handled more gently while accelerating, but it will get you out of trouble anytime.

Mine broke at 13,000 miles.  And again at 14,000.  2014 SR.

(Breaks were probably my fault, tension too high.)

For the record, I tested such a thing on my SR and it did *not* work. The the small sprocket just cold not grab the flaps on the belt at all. Too much torque in too small an area, I think.
