Zero FX 2014 - Kickstand remains "down"
« on: December 04, 2018, 12:30:20 PM »

Hello,

I have an issue where my ZERO thinks the kickstand is down. I see error code 45 no matter what position I put the kickstand in.

I tried to figure out where do sensor wires go but could not find the connector in big ball of wires on the right side of the frame.
If anyone can point me at the right direction with some pictures that'll be great.

I also managed to connect with my laptop and open a terminal through the serial connection (OBD port) but I do not have the password for changing the settings, I have version 54 of the MBB firmware.
There's a safety override for the kickstand safety switch in the program but I can't change it without the password.
If anyone could send it over a PM that'll be sweet!

Thank you guys.
Itay.

Malfunctioning kick stand safety switches are a common problem on ICE motorcycles (probably due to their exposed location).  Just about everyone that owns a Royal Enfield, like me, disconnects or connects (depending upon the particular system) the wires to the switch that is operated by the kick stand lever. That solves the problem permanently. Since I grew up with kick stands that did not have safety interlocks or spring-loaded safety retraction systems, remembering to kick the stand back up before riding off was never an issue for me.  ;)

It's a hall effect sensor, it's advised by the manufacturer not to short it's wires, plus it's three wires so it's not a standard switch

My bike's had an occasional problem with that since it was new. I notice particularly when the weather turns (warms up at the beginning of summer or cools down later in the season), it will occasionally give me some grief. If I notice the red light flickering on the dashboard, I give the kickstand a kick with my left foot and that seems adequate. Very rarely, it has allowed me to start out, but shut me down again in 50 feet or so, which is more annoying and could be dangerous if you get out into traffic and lose power.

I've given some thought to epoxying a strong magnet to the sensor, to make it think the kickstand's always up. But I think there is some value to the switch. I've had jokesters who didn't realize the bike was "running" twist the throttle before I got on, and the only thing preventing the bike from surging forward was that kickstand switch.

I've decided it's not so bad giving it the occasional kick. It doesn't seem to be getting worse or better, so it's just one of those idiosyncrasies I've learned to live with.

Turns out that a little cleaning was all it took, that little magnet on the stand was blocked by some gunk, it set me back for a week but no worries now, running as usual.

Took a towel and clean it throughly even though it didn't seem to be dirty it did the trick weird enough

Cheers
